Candidates in Hanoi completed the first day of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

Dr. Trinh Thu Tuyet, former Literature teacher at Chu Van An High School (Hanoi) said that the biggest difference in the Literature exam in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam is that the materials for the reading comprehension and writing questions do not use texts from all three current textbooks.

This is the result of the innovation process of teaching and learning Literature in high schools according to the 2018 General Education Program, when through reading comprehension texts in Literature textbooks, teachers provide learners with knowledge of genres and Vietnamese, forming reading comprehension, appreciation, discussion, dialogue skills..., so that candidates can independently solve new problems of literature and life in the exam.

The Literature exam also closely follows the reference exam structure announced by the Ministry of Education and Training . The content of the reading comprehension and Vietnamese sections in the exam are within the scope of knowledge and skills required for the Literature subject in the program. In general, the reading comprehension questions are suitable for students when testing the knowledge and skills of the Literature subject in the program, ensuring the correct levels of cognition, and having practical significance for their future lifestyle.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Hue, a teacher at Hoang Mai High School ( Nghe An ), also said that the language used in the exam is completely outside the textbook. This requires more reading comprehension, analysis and application of knowledge than before. This innovation will eliminate the situation of rote learning and skewed learning based on sample texts, encouraging students to read more and access different language materials. With open exams, the exam answers must also be open to ensure the rights of all candidates.

According to the assessment of Math teachers, HOCMAI education system, the 2025 Math exam is built according to the structure and format announced in the reference exam, closely following the program content, mainly the grade 12 program and in line with the innovation orientation.

Notably, this year's exam increased the practical application factor, with clear differentiation and diverse question formats, requiring candidates to master the knowledge and skills according to the 2018 General Education Program, especially the ability to relate to reality.

In particular, the appearance of true/false and multiple choice short answer tests is a new highlight, requiring candidates to have reading comprehension, logical thinking and problem solving skills to handle. This is considered a step forward towards the goal of accurately and comprehensively assessing learners' abilities - a key requirement in current educational innovation. It is predicted that with this test, there will be hardly a "rain of 10s".

This year's exam also took place in a special context, when the whole country was rearranging administrative boundaries and implementing a 2-level local government model. The exam had more than 1.1 million candidates taking the exam, an increase of nearly 100,000 candidates compared to 2024. The exam was held at 2,494 exam sites with nearly 50,000 exam rooms, and about 200,000 personnel were mobilized to participate in the exam organization.

This year's exam has received the attention of the Government, ministries, branches, localities, and the determination and consensus of the entire education sector. Before the exam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and leaders of ministries and branches inspected the exam preparation work in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong. Notably, before the Literature exam on the morning of June 26, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son also inspected a number of exam sites in Vinh Phuc province and encouraged the invigilators and candidates.

According to a quick report from the Ministry of Education and Training, the first day of the exam was safe, serious, and in accordance with regulations. At the end of the Literature exam, 10 candidates nationwide were suspended due to violating exam regulations, including 8 candidates using mobile phones and 2 candidates using documents.

On the morning of June 27, candidates will continue to take the exam for two elective subjects among the subjects assessed by scores in the 2018 General Education Program. In the Math exam on the afternoon of June 26, 5 candidates nationwide were suspended due to violating exam regulations. At the end of the first exam day, 15 candidates nationwide violated exam regulations.
