Nephrectomy due to subjectivity when suffering from ureteral stones

Báo Gia đình Việt NamBáo Gia đình Việt Nam16/04/2025

Hanoi General Hospital has just performed surgery to remove the right kidney of a 40-year-old patient due to complications from ureteral stones. Previously, the patient was subjective and did not receive timely treatment, leading to loss of kidney function.

Patient H. (40 years old, Ninh Binh ) had a history of stones in the upper right third of the ureter. However, at the time of diagnosis, the patient was 29 weeks pregnant with her third child. Mistaking the spasms caused by kidney disease for signs of pregnancy, Ms. H. did not seek medical examination and treatment immediately after giving birth.

After 5 years, the patient went to the doctor when he had mild pain in the right flank, without any signs of painful urination or frequent urination. Through paraclinical examination, the doctors discovered that the right ureteral stone had caused stage 4 kidney dilation, severe hydronephrosis, and complete loss of right kidney function.

Faced with this situation, doctors at Hanoi General Hospital held a consultation and decided to perform laparoscopic surgery to remove the right kidney to prevent more dangerous complications.

Experts warn that ureteral stones can cause many dangerous complications if not detected and treated promptly. In particular, pregnant women with unusual signs should go to a medical facility for examination to avoid long-term effects on health.

The surgery was successful under the supervision of a team of experienced doctors at Hanoi General Hospital. After 3 days of treatment, the patient recovered well, was in stable health and was discharged from the hospital. Ms. H. also sent her sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses who took good care of her and helped her recover quickly.

Regarding the above case, Dr. Bui Thanh Ha, Deputy Head of the Treatment Department of Hanoi General Hospital, recommended that people with a history of kidney stones should have regular health check-ups at reputable medical facilities for timely consultation and monitoring. Delays in treatment can lead to serious consequences, even requiring kidney removal.

“Laparoscopic nephrectomy is a complex technique, requiring highly qualified doctors and modern equipment.

To protect health, everyone should proactively have regular check-ups every 6 months - 1 year to detect potential diseases early. At the same time, building a scientific, healthy lifestyle helps maintain good health and prevent dangerous complications," Dr. Thanh Ha emphasized.
