After more than half an hour of tense play, midfielder Nguyen Cong Phuong scored the only goal of the match in the 37th minute, helping U23 Vietnam win the Southeast Asian championship for the third consecutive time.
"Admittedly, our game plan and play were not really optimal in the final. Throughout the match, the opponent had complete control, and our attacks were not effective," said Mr. Supriyono Primacho.
Despite the defeat of U23 Indonesia, Mr. Supriyono believes that the efforts of coach Gerald Vanenburg's team deserve recognition. However, he warned that the home team needs to be more vigilant when dealing with the opponent's unusual tactics.
"First of all, we need to appreciate the team's performance and effort. But what needs to be emphasized is the maturity, maturity and intelligence in playing football," he said.
Notably, despite coach Gerald Vanenburg's failure to help U23 Indonesia win the championship, coach Patrick Kluivert (who is currently leading the Indonesian national team) still expressed sympathy for his compatriot's strategist.
