With its mysterious historical origins and ancient architecture considered the original of the Mong - Hoa Nam hybrid architecture, the Ha Sung ancient house of the Vu family in Lung Tao commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province (located 24 km from Lung Cu flagpole, less than 3 km from the Vuong's Palace) will certainly arouse curiosity for those who are passionate about traveling and exploring.

Owned by the Vu family, the over 100-year-old house is hidden behind a mountain in a valley out of sight in Ha Sung village, Lung Tao commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province. The structure has a massive architecture, different from all other houses in the area.

The structure of the ancient Ha Sung house consists of three large blocks joined together, in which the two houses on the left and right sides are horizontally recessed, the middle house protrudes forward. According to the locals, the house has the shape of an eagle spreading its wings.

Long stone steps lead up to the main door, two large square stone blocks with elaborate carvings at the foot of the gate pillars. The main door is made of wood with a high threshold, a familiar architecture of the Mong people.

The ancient house has a mezzanine on all four sides, a wooden house with balconies and pillars made of precious wood. According to some collected documents, the Vu family house and the Vuong family mansion were both built by a group of workers hired from South China, so the architecture of the two houses is similar.

In the middle of the house is a courtyard called "skylight", surrounded by living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens. Currently, the 4 Vu families (now the 8th generation) still maintain their daily activities.

Covering the mysterious ancient house of the Vu family is a moss-covered yin-yang tiled roof. The delicate and meticulous decorative details with images of flowers and poppies appear everywhere. From the wooden beams to the monolithic stone pillars, the carved windows all carry motifs of the flower that was exclusive to the nobility at that time.

In this 100-year-old house with a unique and beautiful architecture, there is an ancient, semicircular goat milk bathtub crafted from a single block of stone, weighing hundreds of kilograms.

Mr. Vu Sua Bu (80 years old) said that the ancient house of Hang Sung, Lung Tao commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province is over a hundred years old and has never been restored or repaired.

Over time, many parts of the house have seriously deteriorated. Some rooms are abandoned because they are too old and dilapidated. The front of the old house shows clear signs of time: the old lime paint has peeled off, leaving deep marks.
