Strengthening the application of AI in medical examination and treatment

On the afternoon of July 18, E Hospital, FPT University, and Viettel Vietnam Company organized a seminar on "Application of AI in healthcare at E Hospital".

Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu, Director of E Hospital, said that the cooperation of FPT University and Viettel Vietnam Company will help shorten the distance between medical facilities and help medical facilities transform to meet the medical examination and treatment needs of the people.

The program's content includes reports: "AI trends in healthcare" by Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice President of FPT University; "Consulting and proposing solutions to improve work efficiency for staff and doctors through AI applications" by Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Head of Application Management Department, Viettel Digital Payment Center; "Official launch of VEM.AI - Artificial intelligence application to support medical staff in medical examination and treatment" by Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Head of Application Management Department, Viettel Digital Payment Center and Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu, Director of E Hospital.

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice President of FPT University, shared that the application of AI in the healthcare sector is of great concern to FPT, with the investment of more than 1,000 IT engineers working in this field. To apply AI in the healthcare sector, doctors need to update their knowledge in this field to better serve the healthcare of the people.

From the report “Consulting and proposing solutions to improve work efficiency for staff and doctors through AI applications”, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Head of Application Management Department, Viettel Digital Payment Center shared the way to build AI in the 4.0 era including 5 steps: AI needs data to “live” and give accurate results, especially in the medical field. Doctors need to play the role of “experts” to provide correct results to AI, from which AI researches the information and returns the correct information.

AI applications in electronic medical records are being deployed in many hospitals nationwide. Mr. Khanh introduced: VEM.AI Artificial Intelligence - Artificial intelligence application supporting medical staff in medical examination and treatment at E Hospital.

Dr. Huu shared that the convenience of this software is to shorten examination time and reduce patient waiting time...

VEM.AI is the first generative AI platform in Vietnam in the medical field (currently being tested at a large hospital in Hanoi), supporting doctors in examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of medical records, helping to save time, reduce administrative burden, and at the same time improve treatment quality and patient experience.

The product is developed based on advanced large language models (LLMs), trained with real medical data from more than 10 departments at Hanoi E Hospital and consulted by leading doctors, achieving over 90% efficiency in supporting real-life medical examination and treatment (report from Hanoi E Hospital, 2025).

Dr. Huu shared that the convenience of this software is to shorten the examination time, reduce the waiting time of patients... When there are test results, the X-ray will give a conclusion about the patient's illness and prescribe medicine. The doctor will be the one to review the information that the "virtual" assistant provides before providing it to the patient. This software will "free" a nurse who is assisting the doctor at the clinic.

Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu hopes that AI will support hospital management such as bidding for equipment and medicine. This will help the team of experts performing this work at the hospital to minimize errors.
