On the afternoon of October 10, at the 11th session (special session), the People's Council of Ca Mau province, term X, 2021 - 2026, informed about the resolution promulgating policies to support airlines operating flights to this province.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province, informed that currently, small aircraft operating flights to Ca Mau are mainly VASCO and E190 of Bamboo Airways (98 seats). However, E190 operating at Ca Mau airport must reduce capacity, causing cost losses due to the airport's technical indicators not meeting the requirements.
The People's Council of Ca Mau province has informed about the resolution promulgating policies to support airlines operating flights to this province.
Ca Mau province has also worked with the Ministry of Transport to report to the Government to urgently carry out procedures to upgrade Ca Mau airport to meet all indicators to accommodate all types of aircraft operating at full capacity. During the time the airport has not been upgraded, the province will support airlines operating flights to Ca Mau that have to reduce their capacity. "To receive support, airlines must commit to the province to fly all year round and 6 flights/week. The authorities have calculated that if support is required, it will not exceed 7 billion VND/year," said Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai.
Accordingly, the support level for flight maintenance costs is equal to the ticket price of 10% of the total number of passenger seats of each aircraft type, according to each actual flight. Support is 3 million VND/seat for flights over 1,000 km; 2 million VND/seat for flights from 500 km to 1,000 km and 1.5 million VND/seat for flights under 500 km.
Mr. Hai also said: "This is not a luxury as some critics argue. Clearing traffic arteries, including air routes, is the key issue to revive the rapid and sustainable development of Ca Mau province. Accordingly, each year, the province spends no more than 7 billion to support airlines, but the benefits are many.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, the benefit is for Ca Mau to attract tourists and potential investors, save working costs for staff, open up opportunities for cooperation, business, and travel for people... If comparing the budget expenditure and the benefits, this resolution is very necessary and very suitable in the current context.
