The song “Golden” from the animated series “KPop Demon Hunters” has just risen to No. 1 on the main singles chart of Billboard Hot 100, becoming a global music phenomenon this summer.
Billboard reported on August 11 (US time) that "Golden" has jumped one spot to surpass Alex Warren's "Ordinary" , setting a record by topping both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK's Official Singles Top 100 chart.
This is also the 9th K-pop song to conquer the Billboard Hot 100 and the first song performed by female vocalists to achieve this achievement.
“KPop Demon Hunters” is an animated film produced by Sony Pictures Animation (USA), released globally on Netflix, telling the story of the fictional girl group Huntr/x who both performs K-pop and protects the human world from dark spirits.
The film takes the audience to typical Korean settings such as Namsan Mountain, Bukchon Village or Han River, and introduces the tiger and magpie - two traditional cultural symbols.
In Seoul, the National Museum of Korea and the souvenir shop in the movie have also become new "check-in" destinations, attracting a large number of visitors.
“Golden” is performed by three Korean artists - Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, as the group Huntr/x. The remix was co-produced by producers Teddy and 24, who are affiliated with The Black Label.
Since debuting at number 81 in early July, the song has steadily climbed the charts week after week, reaching number 2 and now number 1, becoming the first song from an animated film to reach this position since "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the film "Encanto" (2022).
The appeal of “Golden” lies in its catchy melody and clear high notes, which are considered a “measure” of vocal technique.
The “Golden Challenge” trend spread throughout the K-pop community, attracting a series of participating artists such as Bada (SES), Lee Haeri (Davichi), Solar (Mamamoo), Lily (Nmixx), Ahn Yu Jin (Ive), Sohyang, Ailee and Kwon Jin Ah.
With its double number one ranking in the US and UK, and its widespread cultural impact, “KPop Demon Hunters” not only made its mark in the K-pop scene, which is lacking in outstanding “hits” in the summer of 2025, but also contributed to promoting the image and culture of Korea to the world./.
