Thanh Hoa Club left for Indonesia today (February 3) to prepare for the decisive match for the next round of the Southeast Asian tournament. Coach Velizar Popov and his team spent nearly 12 hours traveling, including 5 hours on a plane and 1.5 hours by car to the competition venue in Bali (Indonesia).
The Vietnamese team only had one day of training in the host country before taking the field against the home team PSM Makassar. This is a decisive match for both teams' chances of passing the group stage of the 2024-2025 AFF Club Championship.
By the end of the fourth round, only Svay Rieng and Shan United (Myanmar) were certain to be eliminated in Group A. Pathum United (Thailand), Terengganu (Malaysia), PSM Makassar (Indonesia) and Thanh Hoa were competing for the two spots to advance. The Vietnamese team was behind all three opponents.
Thanh Hoa Club (6 points) must win to qualify for the next round. In the 2024-2025 Southeast Asian Club Championship, the reigning National Cup champion has not lost any match but only has 1 victory against Shan United, the rest are 3 draws.
Thanh Hoa Club faces Indonesian team.
If they defeat PSM Makassar, Thanh Hoa will definitely enter the semi-finals without worrying about the remaining opponents. In the match at the same time, the top two teams, Pathum United (8 points) and Terengganu (7 points), will meet.
To prepare for the decisive match against the Indonesian representative, Thanh Hoa Club returned to training on the afternoon of the 3rd day of Tet. The good news for the Thanh Hoa team is that central defenders Gustavo Santos, Trinh Van Loi and Pham Manh Hung have recovered from their injuries and can play in the upcoming match.
The match between PSM Makassar and Thanh Hoa will take place at 7pm on February 5. A day later, Hanoi Police Club will face Borneo (Indonesia). Thus, at the beginning of the new year of At Ty 2025, representatives of Vietnamese and Indonesian football will continuously face each other.
Unlike Thanh Hoa Club, Hanoi Police Club is sure to advance with the top position in Group B. They are the only team in the tournament with a perfect record after the first 4 matches of the group stage.
