At this tournament, the Thai volleyball team is in group A with opponents the US, Egypt, China (host), Türkiye and Morocco.
On the U21 world rankings, Thailand is ranked 13th. That makes many people assume that their strength is not too bad. But when entering the tournament, Thailand has to face the harsh reality.
The 13th place in the world rankings is just for reference. In reality, this team has suffered crushing defeats in the group stage. In the opening match, the U21 volleyball team of Thailand lost 0-3 to the United States.
They then lost 2-3 to Egypt in a tense chase. This gave Thailand some hope, because they played resiliently. But then, entering the match against China, they continued to lose quickly 0-3.
It was not until the fourth match against Morocco that Thailand U21 had the joy of victory with a score of 3-0. But the African team was the weakest team in the tournament, so Thailand's victory was not surprising.
Then in the final match, the Southeast Asian representative continued to lose 0-3 to Türkiye. They ended the group stage with a record of 4 losses and only 1 win against the weak team.
This result made Thailand only win 5th place out of 6 teams, participating in the ranking round from 17 to 24 but not entering the round of 16.
This result is in contrast to the Thai U21 women's volleyball team not long ago. At that time, this team won a ticket to the round of 16 and then finished 12th overall.
Another representative of Southeast Asia, Indonesia, also participated in the 2025 Men's U21 Volleyball World Cup. Their results were not any better when they lost 4 out of 5 matches and also ranked 5th in Group D.
