Minister of Education: After the merger, the curriculum of some subjects will soon be revised

Voters reported that after the merger, Vietnam will have 34 provinces and centrally-run cities. The administrative names of many provinces and cities across the country no longer exist, which means that some subjects in general education textbooks will have many shortcomings.

For example, Geography is affected because the names of provinces and cities of each economic region are mentioned, types of minerals; industrial crops; livestock; specialized rice and agricultural crop growing areas; and sea areas are shown quite specifically and clearly in each locality.

History has many historical events related to many places, uprising movements; famous people, historical figures; feats, events that happened in specific localities...

Therefore, voters suggested that the Ministry of Education and Training adjust and supplement the content of some subjects in the general education program to suit the reality when merging provinces; otherwise, students will have difficulty recognizing what they learn, and teachers will encounter many difficulties and shortcomings when teaching.

Regarding this issue, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son has responded in writing. According to the Minister, when operating local government under a two-level model including provincial and communal levels, and ending the operation of district-level administrative units from July 1, the number of provincial-level administrative units after the merger is 34 provinces and cities (28 provinces and 6 centrally-run cities).

The Ministry of Education and Training has organized 4 reviews of the General Education Program issued with Circular No. 32/2018/TT-BGDDT; the curriculum of subjects and educational activities, the requirements to be achieved for each content and topic; the content of textbooks for subjects, educational activities of all levels, compared with the implementation of rearranging administrative units at all levels, building a model of organizing 2-level local government, and proposing necessary contents to be revised and supplemented.

According to the review results, History and Geography, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education need to be adjusted.

The Council of Subject Experts has proposed contents that need to be revised and supplemented to suit the implementation of administrative unit arrangement at all levels and the construction of a 2-level local government organization model.

The Ministry of Education and Training is implementing the process to issue revised contents of the curriculum of a number of subjects and educational activities as soon as possible.
