The speech reviewing the tradition stated: 80 years ago, in the revolutionary atmosphere on the eve of the General Uprising, the Can Tho Provincial Party Committee advocated building the armed forces to prepare for the opportunity of the General Uprising. On July 30, 1945, the Volunteer Team was established under the command of comrade Tran Van Hoai and Huynh Phan Ho under the leadership of the provincial Party Committee. This was the predecessor unit of the Can Tho Armed Forces and July 30 every year is the founding day of the Can Tho Armed Forces.

During the process of building, fighting and growing, Can Tho Military established the tradition of "Loyalty to the Party, solidarity between the army and the people, self-reliance, bravery and determination to win".

Continuing the tradition and promoting the achievements, in recent years, the Party Committee and the Military Command of Can Tho City have always performed well the advisory function for the Party Committee and the government in building a national defense foundation, building an increasingly solid defense zone; maintaining strict implementation of combat readiness and training. Military recruitment has become increasingly systematic, with increasingly high quality, and the annual military transfer has achieved 100% of the assigned targets. Political education for the subjects, fostering knowledge of national defense and security have received special attention, contributing to raising awareness for cadres and people to fulfill their responsibilities and obligations as citizens in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.

In 1994, Can Tho City Military Force was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces for the first time; in 2010, it was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces for the second time in the renovation period. In 2025, it was awarded the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal by the President.

Carry out well the training, combat readiness, drills, improve professional qualifications, master existing weapons and equipment; proactively grasp the situation, promptly advise the City Party Committee and People's Committee on local military and defense tasks; build a solid defense zone, closely linking socio-economic development with strengthening national defense and security. Continue to actively participate in local socio-economic development programs and projects; contribute to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, natural disaster and epidemic prevention, new rural and civilized urban construction, and improve the material and spiritual life of the people...", Comrade Do Thanh Binh emphasized.
