Binh Dinh and German group promote $4.6 billion offshore wind power project

The offshore wind power project has a capacity of 2,000 MW, divided into 3 phases, each phase of the project invests more than 1.5 billion USD.

At the meeting, Mr. Ho Quoc Dung - Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee - said that the province has great potential to develop renewable energy sources, especially with the province's 134km long coastline, which is very favorable for developing offshore wind power.

The project was determined by both sides to build and implement since 2019. Provincial leaders also visited, worked and learned about the technologies and projects that the group is implementing in Germany.

"The offshore wind power project that PNE Group invested in Binh Dinh is in line with Binh Dinh's planning. The province considers this to be the most important project of the locality in the coming time, contributing significantly to making Binh Dinh a fairly developed province in the country," Mr. Dung assessed.

According to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, the offshore wind power project registered for investment by PNE Group after completion with a total capacity of 2,000MW, put into operation will generate about 7.1 billion kWh of electricity each year for the national grid system, contributing to ensuring national energy security.

At the same time, the project ensures electricity supply for local and regional economic development, contributing an estimated annual budget revenue of about 1,600 billion VND to the province.

At the meeting, Mr. Per Hornung Pedersen - Chairman and CEO of PNE Group - said that after the field trip, the group assessed that Binh Dinh meets all the conditions for offshore wind power deployment such as wind speed, good infrastructure... meeting the project's requirements.

"Offshore wind development is like a jigsaw puzzle. There are some basic and important pieces now, but there are still a few missing pieces. So I hope to find and assemble the remaining pieces to create a complete picture, to develop the wind power project in the most successful way," Mr. Pedersen added.
