Ms. NTP (36 years old, living in Dong Nai province) was pregnant for the second time with high hopes. When the pregnancy was 28 weeks old, Ms. P. went to the hospital for a check-up with vaginal bleeding.
Ultrasound results showed that she had central placenta previa, which can cause massive bleeding at any time, especially during labor.

Local doctors advised her to terminate the pregnancy to ensure safety. Not giving up, she and her husband decided to go to Gia Dinh People's Hospital in the hope of keeping the baby. Here, the woman was closely monitored and treated by a team of experienced obstetricians.
During her pregnancy, the pregnant woman was hospitalized three times due to vaginal bleeding. At one point, doctors suspected she had placenta accreta, an extremely dangerous complication that made the cesarean section much more complicated.
Thanks to a reasonable treatment regimen and close coordination between specialists, Ms. P.'s pregnancy was maintained until the 37th week. On August 12, the team of doctors at the Obstetrics Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital proactively performed a cesarean section for the patient.
In the moment of anxious waiting, the baby girl's clear cry made the whole team burst into tears. After a long period of living in anxiety and insecurity, the patient's family finally breathed a sigh of relief when the mother and child were both safe.

Dr. Huynh Vinh Pham Uyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - who directly performed the surgery - said this was a rare and special case.
Accordingly, central placenta previa is an extremely dangerous obstetric complication that can lead to severe bleeding during pregnancy and childbirth, threatening the lives of both mother and child. This condition occurs at a rate of only 0.4-0.5%, or 4-5/1,000 pregnancies.
In addition, this condition can also cause postpartum hemorrhage, risk of placenta accreta, risk of hysterectomy... Safe treatment requires early detection, close monitoring and choosing the right time for surgery to protect both mother and baby.
More importantly, pregnant women need to be treated at medical facilities with full specialties and modern support equipment.
"We prepared carefully from the initial diagnosis stage, closely monitored the pregnancy until the time to decide on an active cesarean section when the fetus reached 37 weeks. At the same time, the doctors consulted and ruled out the possibility of placenta accreta.
However, if there is placenta accreta, the hospital has prepared an intervention plan, including coordinating with the Interventional Cardiology Department," said Dr. Uyen.
Doctors recommend that pregnant women need to have regular check-ups according to the scheduled appointment; perform ultrasound screening, especially in the middle and late stages of pregnancy.
In cases of placenta previa, especially placenta accreta, pregnant women should be monitored and treated at a hospital with full specialties: Obstetrics, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Neonatology and Vascular Intervention.
