Arrest of 'madam' wanted for 16 years abroad

On December 19, according to news from Vinh City Police ( Nghe An ), the unit has just arrested wanted subject Nguyen Thi Thanh (born 1979), residing in Van Dien commune, Nam Dan district (Nghe An) after 16 years of hiding abroad.

Previously, in 2007, Nguyen Thi Thanh was prosecuted by the Nghe An Provincial Police Investigation Agency for prostitution, but was released on bail. Later, the Vinh City People's Court brought the case to trial and sentenced Nguyen Thi Thanh to 3 years in prison for prostitution.

However, taking advantage of the time waiting to serve her sentence, Nguyen Thi Thanh fled the locality. On June 2, 2008, the Investigation Police Agency of Nam Dan District Police (Nghe An) issued a wanted notice for Nguyen Thi Thanh.

In early December 2024, Vinh City Police deployed synchronous professional measures, determining that Nguyen Thi Thanh was preparing to return to Vietnam. Vinh City Police set up a task force, planning to intercept and arrest the subject.

At around 11:30 a.m. on December 17, 2024, when Nguyen Thi Thanh returned to Vinh City, the task force arrested the subject, ending 16 years of hiding abroad.

Currently, Vinh City Police are completing the paperwork to hand over Nguyen Thi Thanh to Nam Dan District Police for handling according to their authority.
