Not Thanh Thuy, the most impressive person in the historic match of Vietnamese women's volleyball against Poland is the surprising name.

On the evening of August 23, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team had a match with Poland at the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship. In their first time playing on this field and facing the world's third-ranked team, few people thought the Vietnamese girls would make a difference.

But then, they made a miracle with a set win against Poland. Although they lost 1-3 in the end, this result was beyond many people's expectations. Thanks to that historic set win, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team only lost 0.01 points in the world rankings and avoided the risk of losing the 22nd position.

In this miracle, the main striker Vi Thi Nhu Quynh emerged to become the team's number 1 scorer. Of the 45 points of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, she contributed 20 points. Of these, 18 were from attacking, 1 from blocking, and even 1 from serving.

In terms of attack alone, the main striker from Nghe An scored 18 points, made 6 mistakes and created 20 more attacks. Vi Thi Nhu Quynh had a total of 44 attacks in this match. Her efficiency was 27.27%.

The formula to calculate this efficiency is: (points - errors)/total attacks x 100.

This is not the highest performance on the team, because middle blocker Bich Thuy reached 57.14%. However, Bich Thuy only made a total of 14 attacks, much less than Nhu Quynh.

The performance against Poland showed that the 2002-born striker is making remarkable progress after a long time playing for the national team. Her placement in the starting lineup against Poland was a surprising decision from coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, as many people predicted that Nguyen Thi Uyen would be the one to secure a place.

After Nhu Quynh, Bich Thuy is also the second highest scorer of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team with 9 points. After a short time playing in Korea, this middle blocker is clearly changing to regain her position in the team.

Opposite setter Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, who is expected to replace Bich Tuyen, did not have a very good day when she only scored 8 points and achieved an attacking efficiency of 36.36%.

Meanwhile, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy even achieved a negative efficiency when the calculated number was -28%. In this match, she got 6 points, of which 5 were attack points. The player from VTV Binh Dien Long An created 25 attacks but made 12 errors.

The reason for Thanh Thuy's somewhat unconvincing performance comes from the fact that she has to take charge of the first step, so her attacking ability is greatly affected. However, without this main attacker, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is unlikely to win a set against Poland. Many times when faced with difficult serves, Thanh Thuy handled them neatly to make the second set smoother.

Step one is the weakness of Vietnamese women's volleyball. Therefore, having an experienced athlete like Thanh Thuy is an advantage that cannot be ignored.
