Barca considers cancelling Rashford contract

Marcus Rashford's dream of playing for Barcelona could soon turn into a nightmare, according to Spanish media.

El Nacional revealed that the Nou Camp team is considering sending the English striker back to Manchester United after just three games. Barcelona's board, especially President Joan Laporta and Sporting Director Deco, are unhappy with Rashford's performance.

The player has been described as “timid, inaccurate and lost” on the pitch, leading Barcelona officials to consider terminating his loan deal before the Christmas break. If the decision is made, Rashford will have to return to Old Trafford early, although Barcelona will still pay United around £4.3m for cancelling his contract early.

The 27-year-old striker completed a loan move to Barcelona in the summer of 2025, with an optional £30m buyout clause. However, disappointing performances have left him facing the risk of having to return to MU.

Rashford has been trying hard to join Barcelona. On the contrary, after failing to recruit Luis Diaz and Nico Williams, coach Hansi Flick is betting on Rashford. He hopes to help Rashford regain the form that once made him one of the most promising talents in Europe.

However, the reality in La Liga is not as expected. Rashford has not scored or assisted any goals in the first 3 matches. On August 24, he was substituted right at half-time in a dramatic 3-2 win over Levante. Rashford left the field when Barca were 2 goals behind.
