"Long throw-ins are coming back. We don't have much time. When the 2026 World Cup is coming, every change will be meaningful. We will discuss long throw-ins, taking advantage of goal kicks from the goalkeeper instead of just focusing on playing short balls," Tuchel said in an interview on September 7.
Statistically, England under Tuchel have made fewer long passes than Gareth Southgate's squad at Euro 2024. Tuchel's "Three Lions" have only made 4% of their total passes long, compared to 8.8% under Southgate.
Before the friendlies for the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel has three more national team training sessions to work with the players. He admitted: "We can't cram everything into training sessions. But these changes will be important. Let's wait and see."
Currently, England leads Group K of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 4 wins, creating a 5-point gap over Serbia.
Tuchel's contract with England will end after the 2026 World Cup, making the German coach's success even greater.
