Storm No. 5 moves to Laos and weakens into a tropical depression

According to the city's Hydrometeorological Station, storm No. 5 has moved to Central Laos and weakened into a tropical depression.

At 4:00 a.m. this morning, August 26, the center of the tropical depression was at about 18.9 degrees North latitude; 104.5 degrees East longitude, in the Central Laos region. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 7 (50-61 km/h), gusting to level 9; moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 15-20 km/h.

This morning, August 26, in the Gulf of Tonkin (including the special zones: Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai, Co To, Van Don and Hon Ngu island), there are still strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8; waves 2.0-5.0m high; rough seas.

Coastal waters of Hai An ward, Dong Hai ward, Nam Trieu ward, Do Son ward, Nam Do Son ward, Duong Kinh ward, Chan Hung commune, Hung Thang commune, Kien Hai commune wind level 3-4, gust level 6.

From early morning until the end of today (August 26), the whole city of Hai Phong has moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms.

In the Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi special zone) and Hai Phong sea area (including Cat Hai special zone, Hon Dau island, Lan Ha bay and Do Son ward, Nam Do Son), there will be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 30-50 mm.

Duong Kinh, An Duong, An Lao, Kien An, Tien Lang, Vinh Bao have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 20-40mm. Forecast points Hai Duong , Chi Linh, Thanh Ha, Kim Thanh, Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien, Cam Giang, Kinh Mon and Tu Ky have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 30-50mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

Experts warn that thunderstorms and heavy rains overload urban drainage systems, causing flooding in residential areas. Heavy rain combined with high tides causes flooding in low-lying areas and coastal estuaries. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning and strong gusts of wind that can break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure.
