Many press agencies have established communication channels on social networks to both distribute information in a new approach that is suitable for the needs of readers and increase interaction and increase the effectiveness of information dissemination to the rapidly growing number of public using social networks today. Social networks are also a channel to promote the "brand" and information products of press agencies, thereby attracting the public to their traditional and specific information products.
In particular, in the context of fierce information competition with social networks, press agencies have clearly demonstrated their role in orienting and disseminating information by quickly capturing inaccurate information or information posted with bad intentions to quickly provide corrective information. The simultaneous participation of press agencies in the digital space has created strength, mobilizing a large online community to participate in spreading and sharing positive information, bringing the official information source of the press into the mainstream in the cyberspace.
As the mouthpiece of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Media Center has a clear strategy and practical solutions to improve content quality, expand reach and ensure sustainability in the digital environment, including attention to developing journalism and communication on social networks.
Early grasping the trend of modern media, the Provincial Media Center pioneered in building the first social media channels many years ago. Up to now, QMG owns a rich and effective social media channel system that is among the top in Quang Ninh and the region, with a large number of readers following on modern media platforms including: Youtube, Facebook, Tiktok, Zalo... Not simply putting press works on social media platforms, QMG has its own strategy to develop digital content; at the same time, considering this as the main direction when focusing on key development and investment in these channels.
The most typical is the fanpage on the social network Facebook QMG-Tin tuc Quang Ninh 24/7 has nearly 354,000 followers, becoming the leading page providing official information on political , economic, cultural, social and life issues in the province, trusted by the public. Many videos posted on the channel have attracted millions of views.
QMG also quickly built 2 Youtube channels Quang Ninh TV, of which the Youtube channel in collaboration with BHMedia started operating from December 14, 2020 and currently has 175,000 subscribers, achieving the Youtube silver button. The second Youtube channel Quang Ninh TV regularly posts QMG's special broadcasts and live streams of daily news programs, attracting a large number of viewers; the channel has currently reached nearly 66,000 subscribers.
Since 2021, QMG also owns the Tiktok channel QMG - Quang Ninh News with 72.4 thousand followers and 1.7 million likes (including videos with up to 1.1 million views); Zalo channel QMG Quang Ninh News with nearly 5,000 followers.
The news on social networking sites are all filtered by the editorial department from press works produced by reporters of the Provincial Media Center and published on the Quang Ninh electronic newspaper and on the Center's radio and television programs. In addition, the leaders also require reporters to produce some separate works for social networking sites. Thanks to that, the press information on the Center's social networking sites ensures high information orientation, responsiveness, and is suitable for the approach of the social networking public, thereby creating trust from readers. The Center's social networking channels have therefore also created great prestige, affirming their legitimacy and professionalism; and at the same time attracting readers.
With the Center's communication campaigns as well as current affairs in the province, the editorial department of the Center's social media channels quickly posted news and articles, providing readers with objective and useful information. It must be mentioned that during the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, the time of social distancing, many false rumors spread online, affecting the country's anti-epidemic efforts. The Provincial Media Center actively posted refuting information on social media accounts, especially the fanpage QMG-Tin tuc Quang Ninh 24/7, making this fanpage an effective communication channel, orienting information about the epidemic, bringing government policies to the people, promptly reassuring public opinion, helping people trust and unanimously implement the instructions and operations in disease prevention and control... At the same time, social media channels also answered people's questions related to the epidemic situation through press information and direct exchanges. QMG is also very quick to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training and local schools to organize the production and posting of online teaching videos to serve the needs of students during online learning time, when they cannot go to school...
Most recently, the Yagi storm hit Quang Ninh, leaving serious consequences in the province. At that critical moment, the press and social media channels of the Provincial Media Center promptly and quickly posted information on the storm situation happening everywhere in the province, especially in the areas where the storm's eye swept through... so that people could grasp the natural disaster situation and take precautions. Immediately after the storm passed, Quang Ninh "struggled" to restore all aspects of life and economy. At this time, information on QMG's social media channels really spread the call for solidarity and joint support from all levels, sectors and people of all walks of life in the province as well as localities nationwide to support Quang Ninh in overcoming the consequences after the storm... helping the province to quickly restore the economy and people to quickly rebuild their lives after only a short time.
Mr. Pham Dung, Hong Hai Ward, Ha Long City shared: Currently, among the "forest" of information on social networks about Quang Ninh province, myself and many friends often go to QMG's social network channels to learn and verify information. I find that the information on QMG's social network pages is fast, useful and ensures authenticity and high credibility.
In addition, taking advantage of social networks, QMG has livestreamed many events of the province on social media channels so that readers can easily follow, interact and spread these meaningful activities to the public. Notably, the livestream of the 60th Anniversary of the province's founding with 628,000 views, nearly 11,000 concurrent views. In July 2023, for the first time, the Question and Answer Session at the 14th Session of the 14th Provincial People's Council was livestreamed by QMG on social networks via the fanpage QMG-Tin tuc Quang Ninh 24/7, helping people to ask questions online and get answers right at the session. The live stream attracted 26,000 views, 1,200 likes, 559 comments... In 2025, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Mining Region, the Provincial Media Center livestreamed this solemn and meaningful celebration, attracting a large audience and many proud comments about the journey of liberating the Mining Region so far. The livestream event has truly helped spread the historical tradition and pride of the people of the heroic Mining Region about the journey of liberating, building, protecting and developing the land at the northeastern tip of the Fatherland, becoming a growth pole of the Northern region...
In addition, with the characteristics of a tourist province, from 2022, QMG will also build a specialized fanpage to introduce destinations, unique cuisine, and attractive travel experiences in the area called Quang Ninh Eat and Play 24/7 to bring information to a large number of people and tourists. Along with that are fanpage channels spreading Quang Ninh radio programs such as: Stories with doctors, QMG - Radio Quang Ninh.
Building on the results achieved from operating Vietnamese social media channels on Facebook, QMG has built and put into operation an English social media account named QMG-Halong News and a Weibo channel in Chinese to reach foreign readers interested in tourism, investment and other information about Quang Ninh. This is also considered a positive direction to reach a more diverse audience, spreading positive information to a large number of foreign tourists and investors.
Social media is a useful tool to help the Provincial Media Center bring its information products to a wider public, increase interaction and expand its scope of influence. Although facing challenges when operating on social networks, when seizing opportunities, taking advantage of the benefits of social networks and minimizing risks with the orientation and orthodoxy of the press, this will certainly be an effective direction to help the Provincial Media Center maintain its position in the digital age.
