The press contributes to preserving and promoting national cultural identity.

Since its inception amid the patriotic movement in the early 20th century, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has been a spiritual stream closely associated with the process of building and defending the country and developing national culture. Over time, the press has not only reflected historical reality but also revived community memories, distilled and spread the cultural values typical of the Vietnamese people in every stage of the country's development.

What makes the national culture last through the lens of journalism is the presence of culture in every genre of journalism, from articles in print newspapers, photo reports, radio programs, television news, to modern digital products such as interactive videos , infographics, podcasts, social networks... Each method of expression contributes to diversifying the approach, helping Vietnamese culture reach all readers and listeners in a more flexible, closer and effective way.

Through each section on heritage, festivals, customs, folk beliefs, traditional craft villages or folk art works, the press becomes a bridge to bring old values to contemporary life. Television programs specializing in ethnic music , radio news about regional culture, or series of articles reflecting customs, habits and traditional lifestyles on electronic newspapers... are helping readers and the public to listen, see and understand more clearly the depth of Vietnamese culture.

In addition to its dissemination function, the press also contributes to preserving and protecting national identity in the face of modern challenges. Many times, the press has spoken out strongly against cultural encroachment, violations of historical traditions, and violations of traditional customs and practices... Cultural forums organized by the press are places where artists, researchers, and managers exchange, debate, and affirm the core values of national culture.

In a multi-platform media environment, today's press is also reaching out to the world, contributing to positioning the Vietnamese cultural brand on the international map. Cultural tourism television programs, bilingual articles, and digital content featuring Vietnamese culture published on global platforms have been helping friends from all over the world understand more about a nation with a long history, unique cultural identity, and enduring vitality.

Preserving national cultural identity does not mean storing traditional cultural values in a museum of memories, but rather making them come alive in modern life. The press - as a special cultural institution - is contributing to realizing that with creativity, social responsibility and a deep love for national culture.

Spreading Vietnamese human values

Vietnamese revolutionary journalism was born from the aspiration for national liberation, but at the same time it also took on the mission of spreading profound humanistic values and fostering the moral and spiritual foundations of society.

Throughout 100 years of development, especially since the renovation period until now, the press has increasingly demonstrated its role as a bridge to spread the profound human values of the Vietnamese people. These are patriotism, solidarity, tolerance, sharing, respect for justice and the desire to live well and beautifully.

Through thousands of everyday stories about good people, good deeds, volunteer programs, and community support, the press has touched the hearts of readers, aroused emotions, social responsibility, and inspired people to live humanely. Articles about teachers in mountainous areas, doctors on the border, people rescuing people in storms and floods... are not only true slices of reality but also strong messages about compassion, about the love of compatriots and comrades that still quietly flow in every Vietnamese person.

Not only that, the press is also a pioneer in the fight against evil, wrongdoing, and indifference in social life. Many series of investigative and social criticism articles have contributed to exposing negativity, defending justice, and protecting the disadvantaged. It is the steadfastness in truth and morality that creates the core humane qualities of revolutionary journalists - always standing on the side of the people, protecting legitimate interests, and promoting good things in society.

In the current context, when information is multi-dimensional and social networks are developing strongly, mainstream press is increasingly asserting its position through the humanistic quality of its content. This is not only a requirement of professional ethics, but also a foundation for the press to maintain public trust, thereby continuing to perform well its role of guiding society, creating ethical standards and lifestyles for the community, especially the younger generation.

Although the form of expression will continue to change, although technology will change the way we approach the public, the humane mission of the Vietnamese revolutionary press will remain unchanged. Maintaining that mission in the heart of the times is not only a professional duty, but also a responsibility of journalists to the future of the nation.

At the ceremony to announce and award the 9th National Press Award on Party building - Golden Hammer and Sickle Award (January 20, 2025), General Secretary To Lam acknowledged that the press has truly affirmed its pioneering role in promptly condemning negative behaviors, uncompromisingly fighting corruption, waste, wrong and hostile views. At the same time, the press has also actively spread positive values, new models, good practices, and typical examples among cadres, party members and people. Many works not only attract public attention but also contribute to suggesting and proposing practical solutions to help Party committees and authorities at all levels overcome difficulties and obstacles, promote development... These contributions are not only the results of creative labor but also demonstrate the mettle, intelligence, and social responsibility of the press team in carrying out its historic mission.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the new era is opening up a bright future for the nation. The new era also sets new and higher requirements for revolutionary journalism, requiring the press to develop accordingly, grow together with the nation, and be worthy of a professional, humane, and modern journalism.

To realize the role of the press as a driving force, bridge, conductor and companion for cultural industries in the new era, at the Forum "The role of the press in promoting the development of cultural industries" (May 31, 2025), Mr. Le Hai Binh, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, hoped that press agencies would continue to proactively innovate both in content and form of propaganda in the cultural field. At the same time, strengthen inter-sectoral cooperation, closely link with creative and artistic establishments in promoting products, building national and international cultural brands; provide accurate, humane information, orient aesthetics and arouse pride in Vietnamese identity.

Press agencies firmly protect the national cultural foundation in the flow of innovation and international integration; focus on training and fostering a team of reporters, editors, and journalists with strong political will, high professional qualifications, deep understanding of culture, art, and creativity, capable of inspiring and motivating the development of cultural industries...

For a century, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has always accompanied the country, not only reflecting the flow of the times, but also spreading cultural values, fostering the humanistic spirit of the nation through each period. In the context of strong media development, maintaining cultural depth and a humane perspective in each page and each column is the way for the press to continue to play an important role in the spiritual life of the nation.
