Tropical depression strengthens into storm, 210km from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri, very heavy rain on the mainland

This morning, the tropical depression has strengthened into storm Nongfa (storm number 6), moving inland from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri, with heavy to very heavy rain forecast today.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 7am this morning, the storm's center was about 210km from Ha Tinh to northern Quang Tri.

This storm has the international name Nongfa, named by Laos after a lake in Laos.

It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours, the storm will move West Northwest, make landfall from Ha Tinh to northern Quang Tri provinces, then move to Laos, weaken and gradually dissipate.

From noon today, the coastal mainland of the provinces from Nghe An to Quang Tri will have stronger winds of level 6, gusting to level 8. The coastal mainland of Ha Tinh to northern Quang Tri will have winds of level 6-7, near the storm center will have winds of level 8, gusting to level 10.

Last night and early this morning, the North, Central and South had showers and thunderstorms, with heavy to very heavy rain in some places.

Rainfall from 7pm last night to 3am this morning was over 130mm in some places, such as: Cho Trang station (Nghe An) 134.6mm, Huong Quang station ( Ha Tinh ) 160.2mm.

From this morning to tomorrow, August 31, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue City will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall from 150-300mm, in some places over 500mm.

Today in Da Nang city there is heavy rain with common rainfall of 40-90mm, some places have very heavy rain over 150mm.

From today until tomorrow, August 31, the midlands and deltas of the North will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 100-200mm, in some places very heavy rain over 400mm.

In addition, today and tonight, other places in the North, the Central Highlands and the South will have moderate rain and thunderstorms with rainfall of 20-40mm, with some places having heavy rain over 100mm.

In the East of the area from Quang Ngai to Lam Dong, there will be showers and thunderstorms, some places will have heavy rain with rainfall from 10-30mm, some places over 80mm.

Warning of risk of heavy rain (>70mm/3 hours). Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
