According to a VNA correspondent in Thailand, from August 19-21, the Public Relations Department (PRD) of the Thai Government hosted the 23rd Plenary Conference (General Assembly) of the Asia- Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).
The event brought together dozens of media agencies from leading media organizations in the Asia- Pacific region, including Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and Vietnam Television (VTV).
With the theme “Media for People, Peace and Prosperity,” the AIBD 2025 General Assembly aims to highlight the core mission of the organization, founded in 1977, which is to promote the development of the media industry through responsibility and creativity, especially in an era where technology and artificial intelligence (AI) play an increasingly important role.
At the Strategic Planning Group (SPT) meeting, which reviewed the draft AIBD Strategic Plan 2025–2029, delegates addressed ways to strengthen the role of media across the Asia-Pacific region, and discussed new governance structures to ensure the industry remains resilient and adaptable to changing global trends.
A key focus of the SPT is to consider the establishment of new steering committees on Content – geared towards producing high-quality, revenue-generating content that meets the needs of digital-age audiences; Emerging Technology – focused on leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, to enhance media operations and efficiency; and Sustainability – dedicated to developing sustainable financial and environmental strategies to ensure long-term stability for the media industry.
These are seen as factors that will play a central role in driving AIBD's future strategy.
At the Executive Board meeting (EXBO), chaired by PRD General Director Sudruetai Lertkasem, delegates reviewed AIBD's direction and strategy, taking into account the rapidly evolving media landscape driven by technology and changing consumer behavior.
The gathering of broadcasters, media professionals and policy makers at the 23rd AIBD Plenary Conference is considered an important international forum for those in the media industry to share and establish collaborative networks, especially in today's vibrant media environment.
Sharing with VNA reporters in Thailand, Ms. Tran Thai Ha, chief specialist of the International Cooperation Center of Vietnam Television, said: “In addition to attending a prestigious international forum on radio and television, I had the opportunity to connect with many friends and colleagues from state-owned television stations as well as partners in the field of training and international cooperation. I hope that these experiences and relationships will open up more international cooperation opportunities for Vietnam Television, especially taking advantage of AIBD's existing training frameworks to contribute to improving the quality of broadcast programs.”
At the AIBD plenary session on August 20, Ms. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director General of PRD, was elected Chairwoman of the AIBD General Assembly (AIBD GC) for the 2025-2027 term.
The President of the AIBD General Assembly is the highest office among AIBD members, with the authority and responsibility to be the main representative of the General Assembly, chairing the meetings of the General Assembly, supporting the mission of AIBD and promoting cooperation among member organizations.
The General Assembly also agreed to hold the 51st Annual Meeting in the Maldives in May 2026.
On the sidelines of the Plenary Conference, a media and cultural exhibition was held with the participation of a number of international media organizations and local businesses./.
