The organ donor was a male patient who unfortunately had a traffic accident in Hanoi , hospitalized in a deep coma, at risk of brain death. After unsuccessful efforts to save him, the doctors and the tissue and organ donation association approached, shared and encouraged the family about the meaning of organ donation - giving away a part of the deceased's body to light up hope for many others.
In the pain of loss, the patient's family still chose to love and share, agreeing to donate their loved one's organs to save others.
On the night of June 23, the patient showed signs of further deterioration, threatening to affect the quality of tissues and organs. That same night, E Hospital coordinated with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, 108 Military Central Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Vinmec and the Central Eye Hospital to urgently consult and decide to perform surgery to remove multiple organs.
The medical teams were racing against time, preparing every step carefully. Early in the morning of June 24, the donor's organs were quickly transferred to the transplant hospital.
Thanks to the harmonious coordination, the donor's heart was successfully transplanted to a patient at Viet Duc Hospital; the liver was divided in half and transplanted to two patients at Vinmec and 108 Military Central Hospital; two corneas were brought to the Central Eye Hospital to restore light to two other people.
Five people, five destinies were revived from a humane decision of the donor's family.
That act of "giving is forever" will be a flame of hope, demonstrating the power of love and compassion when life can continue even after a life has ended.
