For a sustainable future of the coffee industry
The coffee industry currently contributes up to 3% of the country's total GDP, with an export turnover of over 3 billion USD/year, accounting for about 15% of total agricultural export turnover in recent years.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also said that the Vietnamese coffee industry is creating jobs and stable income for more than 600,000 farming households. However, to move further on the world map, the Vietnamese coffee industry must face many challenges.

Accordingly, fluctuating agricultural prices, poor productivity, climate change causing drought, water shortages, and outdated farming techniques cause problems with product quality, leading to low income.
Understanding this issue and aiming to create common value for coffee farmers, the Vietnamese coffee industry, along with the goal of building a responsible and sustainable supply source, Nestlé Group has implemented the NESCAFÉ Plan in Vietnam since 2011. This program was implemented by Nestlé Vietnam in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) in the Central Highlands provinces.

To date, NESCAFÉ Plan has connected with more than 21,000 farming households to practice sustainable coffee production according to 4C standards, organized more than 467,000 training sessions and distributed more than 86 million high-quality, disease-resistant seedlings to support the replanting of aging coffee areas.
The program also encourages appropriate intercropping, with 86% of farmers intercropping at least three species and yields 15% higher than the national average, while creating 60% shade trees, saving 40% to 60% of irrigation water through the application of efficient and economical irrigation methods and techniques. As of 2024, the program has renovated more than 86,000 hectares of aging coffee trees through the distribution of disease-resistant and high-yielding seedlings.
Nestlé Vietnam 's 30-year journey
Thanks to participating in the NESCAFÉ Plan, many farming households have become familiar with sustainable coffee cultivation methods, increased productivity and optimized costs, thereby increasing income and improving quality of life.

“We have accompanied the country’s development and are proud of Nestlé’s contributions over the past three decades in Vietnam. In the future, we look forward to continuing to invest to create value and positive impacts for consumers, the community and the environment,” said Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam.
Through multi-stakeholder cooperation programs, Nestlé Vietnam has also been recognized by agencies and departments for its positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the locality as well as the country.
“Nestlé's position and role in Vietnam have always been recognized and highly appreciated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the agricultural sector, and Vietnamese farmers,” said Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Director of the Secretariat of the Partnership for Sustainable Agricultural Development in Vietnam (PSAV).
On the occasion of its 30th anniversary in Vietnam, Nestlé announced an additional investment of nearly VND 1,900 billion to expand the Tri An Factory in the 2024-2025 period, bringing Nestlé Vietnam's total investment capital to nearly VND 20,200 billion, to increase deep processing capacity, increase the value of Vietnamese coffee beans and promote "Made in Vietnam" exports.
The investment in expanding the Tri An factory is a long-term commitment to the Vietnamese coffee industry with the vision of making Nestlé Tri An the group's coffee processing center, helping to increase the value of Vietnamese coffee beans and bring them to more than 30 markets around the world, including many demanding markets.

In the next phase, Nestlé Tri An will continue to be a launching pad for regenerative agriculture initiatives, closely linking the factory and raw material areas.
With the joint efforts of the Government, businesses, research institutes and farmers, the Vietnamese coffee industry has not only maintained its billion-dollar position but also made its mark on innovation and sustainable development.
Nestlé's 30-year journey in Vietnam and 15 years of NESCAFÉ Plan are testament to the power of multi-stakeholder partnerships, contributing to putting Vietnamese coffee on the global food map with increasingly high added value.
