According to the Organizing Committee, this year's swimming tournament attracted 273 athletes, with 49 clubs in the province participating, competing in 14 events for age groups (male and female) from 6 to 18 years old and above.
In his opening speech, Mr. Bui Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Dinh province, said: The third "Green Race" Swimming Competition for drowning rescue for students and teenagers in Binh Dinh province was organized to continue promoting the swimming practice movement, improve health, protect oneself, and prevent drowning accidents.
This is also an important activity to promote the role and responsibility of authorities at all levels, as well as to create a spread to attract the attention and cooperation of society to accompany the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Department ofEducation in implementing the movement of learning to swim safely and solutions to prevent and combat drowning accidents for children and students, protecting the health and lives of the country's future generations.
In addition, Mr. Bui Trung Hieu said that the swimming tournament creates opportunities for athletes, students, sports officials, and teachers to exchange and learn from each other, and share experiences in safety work to prevent drowning of children and students.
Hopefully, through this swimming competition, the swimming practice movement in the province will spread more and more, the number of teenagers who know how to swim and have skills to prevent and combat drowning will increase.
Sharing information on drowning prevention, the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Dinh said: In recent times, although the work of preventing injuries and drowning in children has had many positive changes, the situation of drowning is still complicated.
The reason for this situation is that children do not know how to swim and lack knowledge about drowning prevention skills. Along with that, due to the lack of attention and subjectivity of adults, children are free to play in dangerous areas such as the sea, rivers, streams, ponds, and lakes.
In our province, the work of propagating to raise people's awareness and disseminating knowledge and skills on child drowning prevention has always received attention from the government and mass organizations, but there are still certain limitations.
The leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also pointed out that the organization of popularizing swimming and preventing drowning for students and adolescents in the province still faces many difficulties; including lack of facilities, the construction of swimming pools in schools and residential areas is still limited in terms of funding mechanisms...
Recently, with the attention of the province and the inherent potential of the locality, the sports sector has focused on implementing the goal of promoting the movement throughout the province. Specifically, there is a plan to invest in developing swimming in schools, creating a legacy resource for swimming to achieve sports achievements in the coming years.
