Trial of 2 escaped prisoners in Ha Tinh

On March 21, at the hall of Xuan Ha Prison (Department C10 - Ministry of Public Security ; located in Vinh Son village, Cam Son commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh), Cam Xuyen district People's Court opened a trial for two escaped defendants, Phan Cong Thanh (37 years old, residing in Loc Ha district, Ha Tinh) and Nguyen Dac Hoang (40 years old, residing in Cam Xuyen district) for the crime of escaping from detention.

2 prisoners escaped at the time of arrest

According to the indictment, the defendants Thanh and Hoang are two prisoners serving their sentences at Sub-camp No. 2 of Xuan Ha Prison.

At about 1:30 p.m. on December 6, 2023, Hoang and Thanh, along with 28 other prisoners, were escorted by prison officers to the longan peeling factory to work.

At about 3:45 p.m. the same day, Hoang and Thanh used the excuse of going to the toilet, then left the prison together and escaped to the mountains.

On December 7, Xuan Ha Prison issued a wanted notice for these two prisoners.

At around 1:45 a.m. on December 9, the working group of Xuan Ha Prison arrested Hoang and Thanh while they were hiding in an area near a resident's house in Hamlet 5 (Cam Minh Commune, Cam Xuyen District), about 5 km from the detention center.

Cam Xuyen District People's Court determined that in this case, Thanh was the initiator, Hoang was an accomplice with a practical role.

After considering the circumstances, the panel sentenced defendant Phan Cong Thanh to 26 months in prison and Nguyen Dac Hoang to 22 months in prison, both for escaping from detention.

Summing up the old sentences, Thanh must serve a total sentence of 18 years, 6 months and 18 days; Hoang must serve a total sentence of 15 years, 3 months and 23 days.

Before escaping from prison, Thanh was serving a 19-year prison sentence for fraud and appropriation of property, with a prison term starting on April 24, 2021; Hoang was serving a 20-year prison sentence for illegal drug trafficking, with a prison term starting on May 29, 2017.
