In the new socio -economic development strategy, Gia Lai province identifies tourism as one of the five key growth pillars, playing an important role in promoting economic restructuring, creating jobs, increasing income and promoting local image.

With the orientation of developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, Gia Lai is gradually building a modern and sustainable tourism ecosystem, associated with the cultural identity and unique natural advantages of the land where the blue sea and the great forest merge.

Developing special tourism

Gia Lai province has just merged Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces, so it possesses a diverse tourism ecosystem, harmoniously combining sea, mountains, forests, cultural heritage and history. The birth of the new Gia Lai province is an opportunity to restructure the tourism development mindset towards regional linkage, optimizing resources and creating integrated tourism products. In particular, the strategy of connecting forests-seas, mountains-plains-coasts becomes more feasible than ever when the rich tourism potentials of the two regions now have the conditions to complement and resonate.

The connection between the Central Highlands and the coastal strip of the Coast not only erases the geographical distance, but also creates a journey of discovery imbued with indigenous colors, culture and nature, enough to attract many segments of domestic and international tourists. With the advantage of "golden forests, silver seas", the province is focusing on developing typical tourism products such as: Beach resort tourism in Quy Nhon, Ky Co-Eo Gio; Eco-tourism, exploring the Central Highlands in Kon Ka Kinh, Bien Ho, Phu Cuong waterfall; Cultural-historical tourism associated with the space of Central Highlands gongs, Cham-pa heritage and Tay Son movement; Community tourism in ethnic minority villages; Sports tourism, health care, science tourism and smart tourism.

Therefore, the province is aiming to effectively exploit the contrasting seasonality between the two regions: the peak season for Binh Dinh beach tourism (summer) coincides with the low rainy season of the old Gia Lai, and vice versa, the dry season from October to December is the peak season for tourism in the Central Highlands but the low season for beach tourism. This complementarity opens up opportunities to build closed tours, connecting East and West, creating an attractive inter-regional tourism service chain all year round. At the same time, the province is promoting investment in key projects, developing attractive destinations according to the strengths of each region. Priority areas include: high-end resort tourism, adventure eco-tourism, cultural-spiritual tourism, agricultural tourism and community tourism.

Green tourism, sustainable direction

After the merger, the connection of the infrastructure system between the two regions is being rapidly completed. Highways, airports, seaports and international border gates have become strategic key points in the journey to bring tourists from the mountains to the sea, from the forest to the city. The formation of closed tours and diversified tourism products is no longer a distant dream but is gradually becoming a reality. In particular, the potential for international expansion becomes clearer when the province can exploit road tourism through Le Thanh international border gate (bordering Laos and Cambodia) and develop sea tourism through Quy Nhon Port, a potential gateway for trade and welcoming foreign visitors.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, Do Thi Dieu Hanh, said that the province has identified the development of green tourism as an inevitable trend, suitable for natural conditions and local culture. New tourism projects must respect environmental factors, preserve landscapes and maintain local cultural identity. The province encourages the development of community tourism and eco-tourism models associated with forest conservation, water resource protection and improving the livelihoods of local people.

Along with that, Gia Lai is actively applying information technology in tourism management and promotion. The deployment of QR codes for explanations at relics, artifacts, and destinations helps improve the tourist experience, while supporting the conservation and management of heritage. The province is also promoting digital communication, connecting with social networking platforms and e-commerce platforms to promote tourism products to domestic and international markets.

In particular, Gia Lai widely deployed the 3K tourism message: "No price hikes, price gouging; No competition for customers; No noise pollution, waste" and 3A: "Traffic safety; Food hygiene and safety; Safety of life and property". This is a strong commitment of the local government and tourism industry in building a civilized and friendly tourism environment and is the driving force for Gia Lai to grow strongly in the new era of development.

Currently, the province is promoting tourism space linkages with neighboring provinces such as Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and regional countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. The completion of upgrading Phu Cat Airport, expanding highways and international border gates will create favorable conditions to attract international tourists and expand the inter-regional tourism market.
