MU are negotiating to recruit Mbeumo. |
According to Mirror , manager Thomas Frank, who is expected to succeed Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur next week, has made a request that Spurs sign Mbeumo.
United are the frontrunners in the race for Mbeumo, having made two formal offers and held extensive talks with the player's representatives. The Old Trafford outfit are willing to offer the Cameroonian a salary of £150,000 a week, with bonuses taking his total earnings to around £200,000 a week. However, no agreement has yet been reached between United and Brentford.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have made no secret of their desire to bring Mbeumo to North London. Spurs are willing to pay around £130,000 a week, less than Manchester United, but have the advantage of a Champions League spot, a factor that could sway the Cameroonian. In addition, the close relationship between Mbeumo and Thomas Frank is also an advantage for the Europa League champions.
Brentford value Mbeumo at £60m. Manager Thomas Frank once stressed: “If Brentford sell Mbeumo, the fee must be a really big number. He is extremely important.”
With one year remaining on his contract and an option to extend it for another year, Brentford are still in control of the deal.
Mbeumo has had an excellent season, scoring 20 Premier League goals, behind only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland. The Cameroon international also provided seven assists. His impressive performances have helped Brentford maintain their position in the top half of the table, despite the departure of Ivan Toney at the end of August last year.
