Honoring 36 outstanding works at the first National Buddhist Journalism Award

On June 6, the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha honored 36 outstanding works that won the first National Buddhist Journalism Award. The work "To attach religion to life" by the group of authors Mai Tam Hieu and Tran Thi My Dung published in Thoi Nay publication of Nhan Dan Newspaper won first prize in the print category.

The first National Press Award Ceremony on Buddhism “Propaganda of a good religious lifestyle - a beautiful life, Vietnamese Buddhism accompanies the nation” took place right after the great success of the Vesak 2025 Festival; on the occasion of the preparation for the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025). The works participating in the contest have contributed to affirming the spirit of engagement, harmony and development of Vietnamese Buddhism in the new era.

Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, said: "Since its official launch on June 18, 2024, the 2024 National Buddhist Journalism Awards has received attention and positive response from a large number of press agencies, reporters, journalists, and collaborators across the country."

Within 1 year of launching from June 2024, the Organizing Committee of the contest received 534 works. Accordingly, there were 288 printed and electronic newspaper works; 228 radio and television works and 18 photojournalism works.

The contest jury informed that many quality entries have been published in mainstream media. Most of them clearly and honestly reflect the spirit of compassion and wisdom of Buddhism, imbued with the breath of the times and the spirit of Buddhism.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded 36 prizes to 36 winning works in the categories: Print Newspaper, Electronic Newspaper, Radio, Television and Press Photo.

The Special Prize belongs to the program series "Sacred Buddha Realm" by the group of authors Thanh Huyen, Phuong Thuy, Nhu Phong, Thai Son, Le Trang, Le Mai, Duy Khanh, Thanh Thao, Chu Quy and Dinh Tuan, broadcast on Nghe An Radio and Television Station.

The Organizing Committee awarded a Special Prize to the representative of the group of authors who produced the series of programs "Sacred Buddha Realm".

In the Print category, the first prize went to the work "To attach religion to life" (2 parts) by the group of authors Mai Tam Hieu and Tran Thi My Dung published in Thoi Nay publication, Nhan Dan Newspaper.

In the Electronic Newspaper category, the First Prize went to the work "Buddhism accompanies the community to create miracles of life" (4 episodes) by author Cao Thi Thuy Giang published on VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper.

In the Television category, the First Prize went to the work "General Vo Nguyen Giap and Buddhism" by the group of authors Mai Thi Thuy Huong, Tran Thi Hang, Nguyen Xuan Hung, Van Tuyen, Tuan Anh, Ngoc Nam and Van Hung posted on Bchannel - BTV9 An Vien Television Channel.

The Radio and Photojournalism categories do not have a First Prize.

Besides, the work " Prime Minister congratulates Buddhists on the occasion of Buddha's Birthday 2024" by author Tran Thanh Hai of the Photo Department (Secretariat-Editorial Board, Nhan Dan Newspaper) won the Encouragement Prize in the Press Photo category.

Following the success of the first season, on this occasion, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha also launched the 2025 Buddhist Journalism Award.

In the 2025 season, the contest focuses on promoting a healthy and peaceful lifestyle in the spirit of Buddhism, protecting and building the Fatherland associated with a virtuous life, and connecting the great national unity bloc.

Venerable Thich Gia Quang expressed his hope that the entries in the new season will truly and deeply reflect Buddhist life, Buddhist activities, and the values of compassion, wisdom, and service in Buddhism.

At the same time, exploit the role of Buddhism in building social ethics, protecting the environment, educating people, caring for community life; as well as introducing positive models in studying, propagating Dharma, volunteering, building a mindful and awake lifestyle.
