On the morning of June 27 in Hanoi , Nhan Dan Newspaper in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists officially launched a press photo contest with the theme "Vietnam on the journey of innovation".
This is an activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first issue of Nhan Dan Newspaper (March 11, 1951 - March 11, 2026), and at the same time to search for excellent press photos marking the comprehensive development journey of the country to serve the exhibition and publication of documentary photo books.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association - affirmed: "We hope that the organization of the contest will create a playground for artists, reporters, and a large number of photography lovers to demonstrate their abilities. Nhan Dan Newspaper will be a bridge to convey the excellent works of the authors to readers. Through the lenses of the authors, the image of the country and people of Vietnam will appear realistic and vivid. This is the soft power that spreads and wins the emotions of international readers and friends".
With the theme “Vietnam on the journey of innovation”, the contest focuses on recording the country’s strong transformation in the fields of people, community, living space and national cultural identity. Entries can be single photos or photo series, reflecting aspects such as infrastructure development, urbanization, new rural areas, people’s lives, tourism,education , environment, science – technology and international integration.
Participants are professional and amateur photographers nationwide. Entries must be honest and not interfered with by artificial intelligence (AI). Editor-in-Chief Le Quoc Minh emphasized: “All winning authors must submit original photos with full parameters and data. The jury members and technology experts will carefully review to avoid cases of AI interference.”
Sharing more about the reason for this regulation, Mr. Le Quoc Minh said that press photography needs to maintain honesty and high topicality. “We want to clearly affirm our position: this contest does not accept photos that have been created or edited by artificial intelligence. That is not only a professional standard, but also a responsibility to the truth and to readers.”
In terms of scale, the contest is held publicly on the dedicated website thianh.nhandan.vn, accepting entries from June 2025 to January 31, 2026. The organizing committee will select about 100 works for the final round to display in exhibitions and print books. The winning works will also be published in publications and digital platforms of Nhan Dan Newspaper, and other press agencies will be allowed to quote them, contributing to further spreading the image of the country and people of Vietnam in the renovation period.
Photographer Ho Sy Minh – Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists – shared: “The cooperation between two prestigious organizations will help ensure objectivity and fairness in the judging process. This will be a large-scale, high-quality competition that will resonate in the photography community nationwide.”
Regarding the awards, the Organizing Committee awarded 1 Special Prize worth 50 million VND, 2 A prizes worth 30 million VND each, 3 B prizes worth 20 million VND each, 5 C prizes worth 10 million VND each and many regional exhibition awards presented by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists.
