According to the US Embassy in Vietnam, Ambassador Marc Knapper always attaches great importance to Vietnam-US educational cooperation. The diplomat said: "When international students and scholars come to the United States and when American students study abroad, both sides bring their own talents, visions, and unique cultures to new communities. And when they work together to advance research and cultivate knowledge, they spark innovation and forge cross-border bonds that can last a lifetime."

The annual report of the Institute of International Education (IIE) released on November 18 shows that the US continues to be the world's leading destination for international students. The number of Vietnamese students studying at US universities and colleges continues to increase, reaching 22,066 students in the 2023-2024 school year.

The figure would exceed 31,000 students if all levels of education were included. Vietnam is the leading ASEAN country in the number of students studying in the US.

Nearly 50% of Vietnamese students studying in the US study in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), contributing to Vietnam's goals of developing human resources for high-tech industries.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of this contribution, commenting that "international exchanges build new bonds that help us cooperate on key issues."

In efforts to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership and the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the US Department of State and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, the US diplomatic mission has sponsored many exchange programs, such as training in the US on improving technical training for 18 Vietnamese education administrators, expanding English programs and STEM education activities for Vietnamese youth, implementing the Fulbright Research Fellowship program, and providing additional Fulbright scholarships in the fields of natural sciences.

The US diplomatic mission continues to commit to bringing more universities and colleges to Vietnam and expanding higher education cooperation through organizing seminars, working trips and meetings of US universities and colleges.
