Explaining to Thanh Nien reporters about the regulation "not choosing the same third exam subject for more than 3 consecutive years", Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Director of the Department of SecondaryEducation (Ministry of Education and Training), analyzed: "The requirement of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training is comprehensive education in the basic education stage.

Therefore, the responsibility of schools when teaching at the secondary level is to ensure that students are taught comprehensively, equipped with basic general knowledge as a foundation for them to continue studying at higher levels and have good career orientation.

According to Mr. Thanh, if we set the third subject as fixed, then whether we want it or not, students from the beginning of grade 6 will have to be very attentive and focused on the subject they will take the exam.

This affects the time and quality of studying other subjects, leading to students not being able to study comprehensively, being disadvantaged in accumulating knowledge, developing their own capacity to study at higher levels, as well as participating in the labor market later.

"For example, if there are three subjects: math, literature and English, students will only focus on these three subjects and not spend time on other subjects such as history, geography and nature, leading to students not being fully equipped with natural and social knowledge to study at higher levels...", Mr. Thanh cited.

Referring to the regulation that the third exam or paper is announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year, Department Head Nguyen Xuan Thanh said that this regulation aims to balance students' ability to focus on completing all subjects according to the program, but still have enough time to review and prepare both knowledge and psychology for the exam subjects.

At the same time, ensure balance and fairness among all localities across the country for students to study and review for exams.
