U23 Vietnam summons overseas Vietnamese Tran Thanh Trung

Coach Kim Sang-sik kept the same 23-player squad of U23 Vietnam players who won the Southeast Asian championship in July. With pillars such as Tran Trung Kien (HAGL), Nguyen Hieu Minh (PVF-CAND), Nguyen Nhat Minh (Hai Phong), Nguyen Van Truong (Hanoi), Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Cong Phuong (The Cong Viettel ), Nguyen Dinh Bac (Cong An Hanoi), Nguyen Ngoc My (Thanh Hoa).

The only new face is Vietnamese-American midfielder Tran Thanh Trung. The player born in 2005 is making a professional mark at Ninh Binh FC in the first two rounds of V.League 2025/26.

Tran Thanh Trung (Chung Nguyen Do) is 1.75 m tall and has played more than 30 times at the U17 to U21 Bulgarian levels. In January 2023, he made his first appearance in the Bulgarian National Championship and in the 2024/25 season, he was in the top 3 Bulgarian Young Players.

Thanh Trung's appearance in this U23 Vietnam training session is mainly experimental. In fact, Coach Kim does not want to change too much the carefully built playing system, as well as operating in real combat.

In Group C of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers taking place at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ), Vietnam U23 will meet Bangladesh (September 3), Singapore (September 6) and Yemen (September 9). Only the group winner is certain to enter the finals, so the goal set by Coach Kim is to win all three matches.
