Wayne Rooney disappointed with MU's opening two matches |
Despite spending £200m in the summer transfer window, the Red Devils have only picked up one point from their opening two Premier League games, with the club's all-time leading goalscorer admitting he is concerned that the familiar signs of the disastrous 2024/25 campaign are still present.
Since taking over at Old Trafford last November, Amorim have picked up just 28 points from 29 Premier League games, with their run to the Europa League final somewhat overshadowing the fact they finished 15th in the league.
Rooney believes that after the draw with Fulham, Amorim must get back to winning ways immediately. He stressed that there is no room for excuses this season, and warned that if the situation does not change significantly in October or November, the pressure will only increase.
According to him, MU need a strong start, and having only 1 point after 2 matches is really a worrying sign. Rooney also expressed concern that, although Amorim had a full pre-season to work with the squad, some old mistakes continue to be repeated.
When asked about the possibility of Amorim becoming a long-term choice for MU, Rooney said that based on what he has witnessed, it is difficult to consider Amorim as a long-term coach for the next 5 years. He commented that even Amorim himself would find it difficult to confidently affirm that he deserves this position based on what he has shown since joining the club.
