To prepare for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, coach Kim Sang-sik called up midfielder Nguyen Duc Viet from Ninh Binh. The ancient capital team confirmed this information.

Duc Viet, born in 2004, is a product of HAGL. The young striker plays for Ninh Binh on loan from the mountain town team. He is a familiar name to Vietnamese fans as he is often called up to the Vietnamese youth teams.

Notably, Duc Viet was part of the U23 Vietnam team that won the 2023 Southeast Asian Championship. In that tournament, he played in all 4 matches. After that, Duc Viet continued to be called up by coach Hoang Anh Tuan to participate in the 2024 U23 Asian Championship.

With this addition, the midfield of U23 Vietnam has become more seasoned and experienced. Although only 21 years old, Duc Viet has competed in many international tournaments. He is highly appreciated for his ability to compete, control the tempo of the match and his stability in performance.

Currently, the U22 Vietnam midfield has many quality names such as Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Van Truong, Dinh Xuan Tien, Nguyen Thai Son and Viktor Le. The competition for positions will help coach Kim Sang-sik have more options and squad depth before entering the tournament.

Vietnam U22 will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and train until July 14 before moving to Indonesia. In the group stage of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, Vietnam is in the same group with Laos and Cambodia. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will face these two teams on July 19 and July 22, respectively.

In addition to the change in the squad, the U22 Vietnam coaching staff also has personnel adjustments. Former Binh Duong head coach, Mr. Nguyen Cong Manh, will take on the role of assistant head coach to replace Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh.
