On September 22 (August 20 of the lunar calendar), the 724th anniversary (1300-2024) of the death of national hero Tran Hung Dao was held at the historical-cultural relic of the Temple of Saint Tran Hung Dao (Binh Dinh provincial relic).
General Tran Hung Dao's real name was Tran Quoc Tuan, born on December 10, Nham Ty year (1231), in Tuc Mac village, My Loc district, Thien Truong prefecture (now Nam Dinh province).
He was the son of King Tran Lieu, the nephew of King Tran Thanh Tong (Tran Canh) and Retired Emperor Tran Thua. He was a member of the Ton That clan, and was highly regarded by the royal court early on. He served four generations of Tran kings: Thai Tong, Thanh Tong, Nhan Tong and Anh Tong.
Tran Hung Dao was an intelligent, well-educated, knowledgeable person, talented in both literature and martial arts. In the early 13th century, the Yuan-Mongol army invaded our country three times. When the Fatherland was in danger and the country was invaded, Tran Hung Dao was the pioneer in fighting against the enemy.
He was trusted by the Tran kings, given seals, swords and promoted to "Quoc Cong Tiet Che"; he commanded military power, organized resistance against the Yuan-Mongol army; "used the few to fight the many, used the weak to defeat the strong" three times defeated tens of thousands of powerful invaders, winning resounding victories (in 1258, 1285 and 1288).
