A strange ancient object was discovered during a rapid excavation to build a new bridge over the Ob River in Novosibirsk, Russia's third largest city. Photo: @Russian Academy of Sciences . It is a 10cm tall bronze dancing figure, sculpted in a style that appears to depict a moving human figure. Photo: @Russian Academy of Sciences.
The dancing figure is seen leaning to the right, with its broken arms raised in the air and its head turned to the left and forward, as if the sculptor was trying to depict the moment the dancer spins counterclockwise, possibly in a spinning dance. This could be one of the trance dances used by Eastern priests or believers to connect with a deity. Photo: @Russian Academy of Sciences.
Archaeologist Andrey Borodovsky from the Russian Academy of Sciences determined that the statue depicts an Indian dancer and was most likely created around 100 BC in northern India. Given that Novosibirsk and India are separated by 4,000 to 5,000 km of rugged and sometimes mountainous terrain, the discovery of such an Indian statue on Russian soil is quite surprising.
