The miracle of coach Kim Sang-sik
U.23 Vietnam successfully defended the Southeast Asian title, defeating host U.23 Indonesia with a score of 1-0. Nguyen Cong Phuong's only goal brought sweet results for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. In this year's tournament, U.23 Vietnam won the championship with a record of winning all 4 matches, scoring 8 goals and only conceding 2 goals.
The championship at Indonesia's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium also helped coach Kim Sang-sik become the first coach in the history of Vietnamese football to win two championships on away field by defeating the home team in the final.

At the 2024 AFF Cup, the Vietnamese team defeated Thailand in the second leg of the final with a score of 3-2 at Rajamangala Stadium, and then lifted the trophy right on Thai soil. At the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, U.23 Vietnam defeated host U.23 Indonesia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium with a score of 1-0 to lift the championship on the opponent's field.
Coach Park Hang-seo has also won many championships with the Vietnam national team and U.23 Vietnam, but has never defeated the host in the decisive match.
At the 2018 AFF Cup, the Vietnamese team beat Malaysia 1-0 in the second leg of the final at My Dinh Stadium. Similar to SEA Games 31, U.23 Vietnam also won the championship thanks to a 1-goal victory over U.23 Thailand at My Dinh Stadium. At SEA Games 30, U.23 Vietnam won the championship in the Philippines, but did not beat the host team in the final, but beat U.23 Indonesia.
Coach Kim Sang-sik also became the first strategist to win both the AFF Cup and the U.23 Southeast Asia. Coach Park Hang-seo won the AFF Cup and SEA Games, but did not win the U.23 Southeast Asia because the tournament was assigned to another strategist.
Coach Kim Sang-sik is flying high in the Southeast Asian arena. The Vietnamese team won the AFF Cup with 7 wins and 1 draw after 8 matches. Meanwhile, in the Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, Vietnam U.23 won all 4 matches. Thus, after 12 matches at the Southeast Asian level, coach Kim Sang-sik won 11, drew 1, achieving a winning rate of 91.6%.
After the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, coach Kim Sang-sik and Vietnam U.23 will prepare for the 2026 Asian U.23 qualifiers taking place in September.
