Rachel Gupta, a 21-year-old model from India, once became the pride of her homeland when she was crowned Miss Grand International 2024. But less than a year later, she shocked the public when she announced that she would give up the title because of a “toxic and unfulfilled work environment”.
Rachel is now back in India, taking a break from the limelight to run a modelling and beauty academy. She is also continuing to grow as a freelance model and inspiration.
On June 17, Rachel Gupta shared on her personal Instagram, where she has more than 1.4 million followers, a series of photos from her trip to Europe.

The beauty visited Milan, Italy, dressed in stylish clothes, enjoyed the street atmosphere and tasted local cuisine .
Previously, she posted a photo of herself attending an event in France, appearing in a black sequined dress, showing off her outstanding charm. Rachel wrote: "I'm feeling better than ever."
On Instagram, she regularly posts videos sharing her perspective on mental health, healthy beauty, and calling on women to "not trade their titles for dignity."
Previously, in a nearly hour-long video posted on Instagram, Rachel recounted her not-so-bright journey after being crowned Miss Grand International 2024. The beauty said she lived in a rented house in Bangkok with no kitchen, no phone, and no security.

She had to pay for her own phone and order food every day, which led to her gaining weight. “I was body-shamed, treated like a livestreaming machine, and no one cared what I thought or felt,” she said.
In a tearful video, Rachel Gupta accused the President and Miss Grand International Organization (MGI) of regularly forcing her and many other beauties to livestream (broadcast online) to sell products.
The items could be chili sauce, dried chicken, toilet paper on platforms like TikTok, Facebook. These things made her skeptical about the beauty queen title she was holding.
The products Rachel promoted for the organization were often of poor quality, which made her feel guilty towards consumers. She had proposed ideas for charity activities but was rejected by the Miss Grand Organization because they were not profitable.
The Indian beauty also admitted that she was instructed to speak and act according to a script during product promotions. “I was no longer myself, just asked to smile and nod to sell products online,” Rachel said indignantly.
After Rachel Gupta relinquished her crown, the Miss Grand International Organization claimed that she had breached her contract and refused to perform her schedule. They asked her to return the crown within 30 days and declared that her title of Miss Grand International 2024 had been revoked.
The incident of the Indian beauty giving up her title has caused a stir on global social networks, especially in the beauty pageant community.

The sudden withdrawal of Rachel, who won Miss Grand India and Miss Super Talent of the World 2022, at the peak of her career, has served as a wake-up call for girls who once dreamed of the crown.
Rachel Gupta’s story comes as a series of international beauty pageants are being questioned about the way they treat their contestants. From the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA scandals to accusations of a lack of transparency behind the scenes at Miss England, a wave of opposition to the “artificial” values behind the glamorous stage is rising.
By giving up her title, Rachel not only chose to leave an unhealthy game but also unintentionally rekindled the debate: Is true beauty still honored in commercialized beauty pageants?

Rachel, who was born in Punjab, is a psychology student and has been active in community campaigns in Mumbai. She has the full support of her family, especially after the scandal with the Miss Grand Organization.
“No title is worth the right to live a decent life,” she wrote in a recent post.
