Since 1995, he has been taking service photos with film cameras, and only temporarily put them aside in 2007. Because of his love for music since his early years of studying Music and Art Pedagogy, he bought an organ to satisfy his passion and serve the local arts. Still having a strong love for photography, he returned in 2022 to continue pursuing art photography (ANT).

He likes to take pictures of everyday life, landscapes and wants to experiment with different photography techniques, hoping to bring viewers new perspectives, different angles... He doesn't like to set up, when taking long exposure photos, he always enjoys the unexpected beauty of the bright streaks from fireworks, car lights on the street... these are unique photos, because there will be no second photo like the previous one.

“Photography brings me many values, in terms of artistic awareness, preserving memorable moments, conveying personal perspectives, emotions and messages through works, and gaining new teachers and friends. I hope to have more beautiful photos that can inspire people who love photography to live, love life and be more creative,” Vu Thanh Nam shared.

Winning many awards at domestic and international photography competitions, with a variety of topics, his photos truly and vividly reflect the beauty of people in life and work: fishermen preparing to go to sea, drops of sweat on the face of a potter, golden rice fields, harvest season, childhood joy, water puppetry, reed paradise...

In particular, the photo series “Honey of the Sea” captures beekeeping and honey exploitation from mangrove forests, a valuable natural resource, affirming the value and motivating people to raise awareness of protecting mangrove forests. Or “New life by the ancient bridge”, capturing the Cho Luong tile bridge in his hometown Hai Hau, one of the three oldest and most beautiful tile bridges in Vietnam.

The work "Night Crane" alone brought him much joy: Third prize in the "Vietnam - Photographic Perspective" photo composition campaign in 2024 organized by the ASEAN Press and Art Photography Club; exhibition of the photo contest to celebrate the United Nations Vesak Day 2025 held at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy; selected to exhibit in the Tourism category, International ANT Contest VN-25.
