Posthumously awarded the title of Hero to the commander who opened the Truong Son motorized road

In recognition of their outstanding achievements during the resistance war against the US to save the country, the President signed a decision to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Major General Phan Quang Tiep and Colonel Nguyen Duc Phuong.

On May 17, the 12th Corps Command ( Ministry of National Defense ) held a ceremony to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Major General Phan Quang Tiep and Colonel Nguyen Duc Phuong.

Colonel Nguyen The Luc, Deputy Commander of Army Corps 12, said that Major General Phan Quang Tiep (born January 5, 1926 in Quang Ngai ) participated in the September 1945 revolution, was the former Regiment Commander of Regiment 98, Command 559, and former Commander of Army Corps 12.

In any position, Major General Phan Quang Tiep also achieved outstanding feats such as: being the commander of the opening of the first Truong Son mechanized road; opening the C4 express road - an extremely important route connecting the Central Highlands with Siem Pang (Cambodia); commanding the anti-sabotage of enemy bridges and roads, and at the same time launching the movement of using infantry guns to shoot down enemy aircraft...

Colonel Nguyen Duc Phuong (born October 10, 1924 in Hanoi ) joined the revolution from the end of 1943 and was the former Commander of Group 763 (K20), former Deputy Commander of Regional Division 470, Truong Son Command.

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Colonel Phuong was assigned a very special and dangerous mission, under the cover of a capitalist, a “big boss”, operating behind enemy lines for a long time. He successfully completed the assigned mission, purchasing and transporting food and fuel in the enemy’s rear areas of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand to supply the revolution in the South until the day of total victory.

In recognition of the outstanding achievements of Major General Phan Quang Tiep and Colonel Nguyen Duc Phuong, on January 23, 2025, the President signed a decision to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Major General Phan Quang Tiep and Colonel Nguyen Duc Phuong.

On the same day, the 12th Corps Command held a meeting to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the opening of the Ho Chi Minh Trail - the traditional day of the Truong Son Troops.
