According to many candidates and parents, although their exam scores were higher than the standard score of Ho Chi Minh City Banking University, some candidates still failed to pass the entrance exam for the economic law major and the law major based on the literature - history - geography combination.

A candidate said that he had consulted the school's law admission plan, which clearly stated that "the admission combinations include math and literature, or math or literature must achieve a minimum score of 6 points (on a scale of 10, with other methods, math and literature scores are converted accordingly)". This candidate registered for admission to the economic law major.

However, on August 24, the school adjusted it to: "For the majors of law, economic law, economic law (partial English), the minimum total admission score is 18 (on a scale of 30). Candidates must achieve a minimum of 6 points in math and literature (on a scale of 10, with other methods, math and literature scores are converted accordingly)".

With the condition that the literature subject in the admission group is 6 or higher, the candidate is admitted. With the condition that the math and literature subjects are 6 or higher, the candidate is not admitted.

With the condition of "literature and math score of 6 points or higher", many candidates who applied for the literature - history - geography combination had higher scores than the standard but failed because their math score on the high school graduation exam was below 6 points.

A candidate said that when consulting for admission, the school staff replied that the only requirement was a score of 6 or higher in math or literature. When announcing the minimum score, the school still announced either math or literature. A parent said that they had complained to the school. If the school did not respond satisfactorily, they would sue the school.

It is known that the Law and Economic Law major of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City recruits 5 groups. Of which, 4 groups only have math or literature, one group has both math and literature which is math - literature - English.

According to a representative of Ho Chi Minh City Banking University, the law major has regulations on entrance requirements.

Because the school considers admission based on combinations, including literature - history - geography, the subject requirement according to the combination is literature, but according to regulations it also includes math.

Therefore, the school updated the "literature and math scores" condition to be more accurate with the regulations, not to amend the enrollment plan.

To be admitted to the law major, the necessary condition is to have a high school graduation exam score of 6 points or higher in math and literature, and the sufficient condition is the school's standard score.

According to this representative, the list of virtual filters returned by the Ministry of Education and Training to the school does not include the names of candidates with literature or math scores below 6 points.

The school has reported to the Ministry of Education and Training to review the list of candidates for admission to the law and economic law majors to have appropriate handling directions.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , representatives of some universities recruiting law students in Ho Chi Minh City said that the school only considers "math or literature" from the admission combination of 6 points or higher, not both math and literature.

On March 14, 2025, the Minister of Education and Training issued a decision on training program standards in the field of law at university level.

Accordingly, students must achieve a total admission score of at least 60% of the maximum score. Math and literature, or math or literature in the admission combination must be 6 points or higher.
