Chinese military helicopter accused of approaching Philippine aircraft in the East Sea

The Philippine National Security Council (NSC) said the incident in the East Sea occurred on September 23 and their aircraft were still able to complete their mission, according to Reuters.

The NSC accused China of violating aviation safety regulations. The Chinese Embassy in Manila did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to Reuters.

In another development, Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro today demanded that China withdraw its ships from the Philippines' EEZ and accused Beijing of trying to interfere with the country's defense activities, including Manila's use of US Typhon medium-range missile launchers for training.

Reuters reported last week that the US had no immediate plans to withdraw the Typhon missile system. Beijing has expressed concern about the deployment of the Typhon system in the Philippines.

“China says they are being vigilant, but that is interference in our internal affairs,” Mr. Teodoro stressed.
