BVN patient recovered after two weeks of surgery and intensive treatment.
On the afternoon of August 5, Dr. Nguyen Huy Toan, Deputy Head of the Department of General Surgery ( Nghe An General Hospital) said: Doctors have just performed surgery to save the life of a patient with a ruptured liver and broken ribs.
Previously, on the morning of July 6, the emergency department of Nghe An General Hospital received patient BVN . (53 years old), residing in Nam Dan, Nghe An, in a state of severe pain around the navel, bruising, skin abrasions in the chest and abdomen, pale mucous membranes, dizziness, rapid pulse, low blood pressure, abdominal distension...
According to patient N.'s family, about 10 days before being hospitalized, the patient had a work accident due to falling from a height. After that, the patient had symptoms of prolonged abdominal pain and had been examined and treated at another medical facility but did not improve, so the family took Mr. N. to Nghe An General Friendship Hospital for examination and treatment.
Here, the patient was quickly examined, consulted by multiple specialists and performed paraclinical tests. The CT scan results showed: Grade IV liver injury with vascular injury, fracture of the anterior arch of the left 6th rib, and 10mm thick left pleural effusion.
After consultation, the patient was diagnosed with: Hemorrhagic shock due to grade IV liver rupture of lobe 2, closed chest trauma - fracture of left 6th rib, left pleural effusion. If not operated on promptly, the patient is at very high risk of death due to rapid, massive intra-abdominal bleeding, leading to hemorrhagic shock, multiple organ failure and circulatory arrest.
"Grade IV liver injury is one of the most severe injuries, especially when blood vessels are torn, and up to liters of blood can be lost in just a few minutes. Many cases, if not treated in the "golden hour" (first 1-2 hours), will not survive," said Dr. Nguyen Huy Toan.
Faced with an emergency situation that threatened the patient's life, doctors and nurses at Nghe An General Hospital promptly activated the internal red alert system, quickly mobilized a team of emergency doctors, anesthesiologists, and surgeons, and transferred the patient to the operating room for emergency surgery.
Under the direct direction of Dr. Nguyen Huy Toan, the surgery lasted for many hours with smooth, urgent and precise coordination between the specialties. The doctors controlled the bleeding in the abdomen and stabilized the patient's hemodynamics.
Checking wounds for BVN patients
After nearly 2 weeks of intensive treatment, the patient was awake, eating well, recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
The success in treating severe liver trauma cases is a testament to the remarkable growth in expertise, skills and harmonious coordination between specialties at Nghe An General Hospital. This is an important premise, affirming the position of the final hospital in the North Central region and aiming to become a special-class hospital.
