Exploiting VSTN land optical cable line: VNPT pioneers in mastering the infrastructure connecting from ground to space

Việt NamViệt Nam05/08/2025

On August 4, 2025, VNPT Group officially operated and exploited the VSTN land optical cable line - the first cable line connecting directly from Vietnam to Singapore entirely via land infrastructure. This is not only a pioneering telecommunications project but also a clear demonstration of: The national strategic vision of proactive connectivity, increased flexibility, security and the ability to respond to all incidents; Marking a strong transformation of VNPT in mastering multi-modal international connection infrastructure: From the ground, across the sea, in space.
VSTN: Strong infrastructure – Proactive operation – Absolute safety
The VSTN cable line is a project of special significance both technically and strategically. With a total length of about 3,900 km, the VSTN cable line passes through 5 countries: Vietnam - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore, is built entirely on land and connects directly from the VNPT technical center in Da Nang to the region's leading international data centers such as: IDC Telehouse (Thailand), MY01 Cyberjaya, Equinix JH01 Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Equinix and Global Switch (Singapore), VSTN is a clear affirmation: Vietnam is no longer completely dependent on submarine cables.
VNPT’s direct control of the entire route from Vietnam to Singapore from start to finish not only ensures independent operation capacity and quick handling of incidents. In the context of continuous and prolonged submarine cable incidents affecting the quality of Internet services and international connections, VSTN plays the role of an important backup route, strategically supplementing existing submarine cable routes, increasing the stability, initiative and safety of the national telecommunications infrastructure.
VSTN uses modern wavelength-multiplexed DWDM transmission equipment, one of the most advanced technologies today. Each wavelength can transmit a minimum capacity of 300 Gbps, the total design of the entire line is up to 4 Tbps and can be easily upgraded to 12 Tbps or more. This helps VSTN not only meet current needs but also be ready for strong development in the near future.
VSTN is not only a technical step forward but also a strategic step for Vietnam to step out of its passive position, towards completely mastering the national telecommunications infrastructure, protecting data security, ensuring information flow is transmitted smoothly and safely in all situations.
From ground to space, VNPT masters the multi-modal transmission ecosystem
Currently, VNPT is operating four major international submarine cable lines including AAG, APG, AAE-1 and SJC-2 with a total length of over 65,000 km. Of these, SJC-2 is the newest submarine cable line, which has just been completed. VNPT is also the first and only enterprise in Vietnam that currently owns and operates two telecommunications satellites, Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2.
With the VSTN cable line put into operation, VNPT Group is gradually perfecting the multi-modal transmission infrastructure ecosystem: from land, across the sea, to space. This complete combination not only helps VNPT ensure wide coverage and strong transmission capacity, but also improves the quality and reliability of domestic telecommunications services.
By putting the VSTN cable line into operation, VNPT not only adds a new transmission line, but also affirms that Vietnamese people can completely master the most complex, safe and modern technological infrastructure.
Not only contributing to improving the quality of telecommunications connections, VSTN also plays a significant role in promoting regional cooperation. In the era of strong digital economic development, data is considered a "new resource" and cross-border connectivity is the key to deep integration of ASEAN economies. With the VSTN cable, Vietnam has affirmed its position as a data transit center in the region, contributing to establishing a seamless digital corridor between Indochina and Southeast Asia.
