Deploying peak period of prevention and control of dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease and Covid-19

To proactively implement the prevention and control of infectious diseases, the Department of Health has launched a peak campaign to prevent and control dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease and Covid-19 in June and July.

Currently, the infectious disease situation in Lao Cai province is still fraught with many risks. As of June 20, 2025, there were 6 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 2 cases compared to the same period in 2024; 11 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, a decrease of 18 cases compared to the same period in 2024; 53 cases of Covid-19, a decrease of 8 cases compared to the same period in 2024. Although the number of Covid-19 and hand, foot and mouth disease cases in 2025 decreased compared to the same period in 2024, the number of cases in recent weeks has increased compared to previous weeks.

In the summer, hot and humid weather and heavy rain create favorable conditions for diseases to arise and develop, especially diseases transmitted through the digestive tract, respiratory tract, and mosquito-borne diseases. To proactively implement the work of preventing and combating infectious diseases, Lao Cai Department of Health requests units, departments, sectors and localities to organize peak activities to prevent and combat dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease and Covid-19.

Mobilize the community to join hands in environmental sanitation to prevent dengue fever.

In particular, proactively communicate seasonal and peak month epidemics (June - July 2025), recommending behaviors that are beneficial to health, personal hygiene and living environment; disease prevention measures; signs of early disease detection, timely isolation and treatment; focusing on guiding measures to protect vulnerable and disadvantaged groups (children, people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women).

Strengthen disease surveillance through regular surveillance systems and pathogen surveillance in disease prevention and control measures. Focus on inspection and surveillance activities on disease prevention and control in localities with high incidences of dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease and Covid-19 or areas with old outbreaks last year.

The inspection and supervision contents include epidemic prevention and control activities implemented under the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Health , the Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control and professional instructions; grasping difficulties and problems regarding drugs, chemical supplies, human resources, inter-sectoral coordination, funding, etc.

The Department of Health requests the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to direct units, sectors and organizations to resolutely implement disease prevention and control work; organize a peak campaign in June - July 2025 to prevent and control dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, and Covid-19. Deploy to each village, hamlet and residential group, mobilize community participation in removing and overturning unnecessary water containers, covering and monitoring tanks and clean water containers to kill mosquito larvae and mosquito nets... to prevent and control dengue fever; instruct households, preschools and primary schools to regularly wash hands for young children to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease; propagate to each household the use of personal protective measures such as wearing masks in public places, limiting unnecessary gatherings to prevent and control Covid-19.

In addition, timely funding must be provided to proactively implement the prevention and control of dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, Covid-19 and other potential epidemics; interdisciplinary inspection teams must be organized to inspect and supervise the implementation of the instructions of the Ministry of Health, the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Health and specialized agencies.
