Awarding the Medal "For the Cause of Vietnamese Diplomacy" to the Director General of UNESCO

(Chinhphu.vn) - Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son presented UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay with the Medal "For the Cause of Vietnam's Diplomacy", to recognize and honor Ms. Azoulay's contributions in promoting Vietnam's cultural heritage, while affirming the strategic partnership between Vietnam and UNESCO.

On the morning of June 28, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son received Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United NationsEducational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked her for her good feelings towards Vietnam and highly appreciated the Director-General's outstanding contributions over the past two terms, contributing to enhancing the role and position of UNESCO.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to multilateral cooperation and the role of UNESCO, continues to promote its role as a responsible member in UNESCO's five key management mechanisms, assigns personnel to important positions, proactively contributes to UNESCO's efforts in promoting dialogue, solidarity and cooperation among countries, and promotes the role of culture in the United Nations' post-2030 development agenda.

The UNESCO Director-General shared his impressions of his meeting with General Secretary To Lam yesterday; expressed his deep gratitude for Vietnam's strong support and commitment, affirmed that Vietnam is a strategic and trustworthy partner of UNESCO, and hoped that Vietnam will continue to contribute more to UNESCO's activities and the common work of the world.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son shared four breakthrough pillars in Vietnam's rising era, asking UNESCO to continue accompanying in policy consulting, improving the quality of human resources, strengthening public-private partnerships, especially in emerging fields such as AI, semiconductors, renewable energy and scientific data.

Expressing her impression of Vietnam's strategic vision and its potential to become a regional knowledge and innovation hub, Ms. Audrey Azoulay emphasized that UNESCO is ready to cooperate to build a Regional Training Center on AI in Vietnam, as well as support the establishment of an International Cooperation Mechanism between universities and UNESCO on AI and data science at Vietnamese universities, and public-private partnerships with Vietnamese corporations in knowledge-based development initiatives.

Director General Audrey Azoulay agreed with the Deputy Prime Minister's proposal, hoping that UNESCO would continue to support efforts to preserve and register world heritage sites, especially supporting the restoration of Kinh Thien Palace and the main space of Kinh Thien Palace at Thang Long Imperial Citadel as soon as possible, supporting the registration of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Monuments and Landscape Complex, and supporting the construction of nomination dossiers such as Co Loa Citadel, Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site, Con Moong Cave, and Cu Chi Tunnels.

The UNESCO Director General affirmed that Vietnam is a typical example of cooperation with UNESCO with many specific results; UNESCO heritage titles in Vietnam have contributed to preserving and promoting the cultural values ​​and traditions of the nation, improving people's livelihoods, supporting sustainable socio-economic development, demonstrating the practicality and effectiveness of multilateral cooperation for local and national development.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son presented Ms. Audrey Azoulay with the Medal "For the Cause of Vietnam's Diplomacy", recognizing not only the Director General's contributions to protecting and promoting Vietnam's cultural heritage, but also affirming the strategic partnership between Vietnam and UNESCO.
