According to Ms. Kieu Nha Phuong, resident of Ward 11, Da Lat City, who has many years of experience picking mushrooms in local pine forests, said that pine mushrooms are considered a gift of nature by Da Lat people.
Entering the rainy season, my family and friends and I go into the forest to pick mushrooms. Dalat pine mushrooms are colorful, have a delicious and unique flavor and can be used to prepare hot pot, stir-fry, stew porridge, etc. However, when picking mushrooms, you need to have knowledge and experience to avoid picking poisonous mushrooms that grow mixed with edible mushrooms.

Every time I go into the forest, my group of friends and I usually pick 3 to 5 kg to bring home to cook. On lucky days, we find a “mushroom nest” and collect 20 to 30 kg. On days when we have a lot of “heavenly blessings”, she and the members of the group sell them to those in need at prices ranging from 120,000 to 200,000 VND/kg, Ms. Phuong added.
Mushrooms thrive after 2 to 3 consecutive days of rain and each type of mushroom is distributed in different terrains.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, resident of Ward 3, Da Lat City, said that the chicken egg mushroom in the pine forest is the most popular type among people because of its beautiful shape and delicious taste. However, another type of mushroom that looks like the chicken egg mushroom and has an orange powdery layer on the mushroom cap is poisonous. Therefore, inexperienced people who pick it to prepare food will be poisoned.
According to local people, after every rainy afternoon, the next morning, mushrooms grow and develop into populations under the pine forest canopy in Da Lat and neighboring pine hills. Usually, mushrooms grow strongly after 2 to 3 consecutive rainy days and each type of mushroom is distributed in different terrains.
Although there are hundreds of different species, Da Lat people only collect common types such as beef liver mushrooms, chicken eggs, ash mushrooms, coral mushrooms (stone mushrooms), milk mushrooms... to prepare dishes. Da Lat pine mushrooms have long been known to be delicious and have very high nutritional value.
Pine forest egg mushrooms are most popular with people because of their beautiful shape and delicious flavor.
Dr. Truong Binh Nguyen, a mycologist from the Department of Biology at Da Lat University, said that during the rainy season, pine mushrooms in Da Lat grow strongly and are often distributed in populations. Some types of mushrooms have delicious flavors and eye-catching colors, attracting people and tourists to the forest to collect and bring home for use.
Mushroom picking is an interesting experience not only for local people but also attracts many tourists to Da Lat.
There is a published study of nearly 300 species of Da Lat pine mushrooms, of which many are edible, but there are also many types that contain toxins that are dangerous to human life.
"Therefore, harvesting wild mushrooms for cooking requires knowledge and experience to ensure safety. In particular, do not arbitrarily taste unverified mushrooms, do not touch poisonous or strange mushrooms to avoid affecting your health," Dr. Truong Binh Nguyen advised.
