On July 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training announced the conclusion of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department, at the post-merger meeting.

Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu assigned the Student Affairs Department to research and advise on a proposal to not allow students to use mobile phones during recess and during educational activities at school. Students are only allowed to use mobile phones in cases where subject teachers allow them to perform tasks during class.

At the same time, consult on plans to organize activities during recess to create conditions for students to connect with each other, while also allowing them to practice physical activities. These activities are expected to be implemented in the 2025-2026 school year.

In addition, Mr. Hieu also requested the Student Affairs Department to preside over and coordinate with the Department's Personnel Organization Department to organize training courses for part-time teachers on counseling and supporting students in the summer of 2025;

Preside over and coordinate with the Financial Planning Department to inspect and review school toilets; Continue to direct educational institutions in the city to establish internal school control boards, including parents, to coordinate with schools to monitor activities related to school toilets, food safety and hygiene, boarding kitchens and other activities; Advise on piloting at a number of educational institutions in the city on schools not using plastic bags, moving towards saying no to plastic bags;

Continue to review and supplement the criteria of "Happy School" to deploy to all educational institutions in the city. Coordinate with departments under the Department to organize conferences and seminars in the summer of 2025 to deploy the criteria of "Happy School" for teachers at all levels to know and implement;

Ban on students using phones in school: parents support

It is known that in the 2024-2025 school year, some secondary and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City (old) have issued regulations prohibiting students from using phones in school. Many schools have equipped phone cabinets in the classroom. When entering the classroom, all students must hand over their phones to the class monitor to put them in the cabinet and lock them.

Students are only allowed to use their phones when requested by their subject teachers. After school, students can take their phones back to book a ride home…

The above regulation has been supported and agreed by the majority of parents. Many parents believe that allowing students to freely use smartphones in school has distracted them from their studies.
