Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 100,000 candidates taking the high school graduation exam in 2025.

Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 100,000 candidates taking the high school graduation exam in 2025, an increase of nearly 9,000 candidates compared to last year.

On the morning of June 10, the Ministry of Education and Training and the National Steering Committee for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam had a working session with the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Departmentof Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the 2025 high school graduation exam in Ho Chi Minh City had nearly 100,000 candidates registered to take the exam, an increase of 8,891 candidates compared to last year.

Of which, 97,940 candidates took the exam under the 2018 General Education program and 1,638 candidates under the 2006 General Education program, the number of independent candidates increased by 5,000 compared to the previous year.

Candidates for high school graduation exam in 2024

The city has arranged 171 examination sites with more than 4,200 examination rooms. Of which, 168 examination sites are for candidates under the 2018 program and 3 examination sites for candidates under the 2006 program. Each examination site is arranged with 3 spare rooms to handle arising situations.

The city has mobilized 855 exam site leaders, more than 12,700 exam supervisors (an increase of 1,409 compared to last year), 2,394 exam site service staff, 513 police officers on duty at exam sites, 92 exam paper printing staff, and an expected 300 exam paper transportation and handover staff.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that Ho Chi Minh City is the second largest city in the country in terms of the number of candidates taking the graduation exam, with the number of candidates increasing by the same amount as candidates from another province. Therefore, the city needs to anticipate possible contingency plans. Just one mistake by the supervisor or one candidate violating the exam can affect the whole city and the whole country.

Mr. Thuong also noted that in the intensive training, there should be more experience in arranging examination rooms, especially for the third subject (combined subject) in the context of this year's exam. In addition, the City also mobilized secondary school teachers to invigilate the exam, so it is necessary to provide more detailed training for these teachers.

"For the third subject, the combined subject, we must choose teachers with professional expertise, flexibility, and enough courage to invigilate that exam room. The requirement for this room is that they must be high school teachers, at this time not all teachers at all levels are allowed to invigilate the exam," said Mr. Thuong.

The 2025 high school graduation exam will take place on June 25-26. Candidates will take four exams, including Math and Literature. In addition, they will choose two more subjects from the subjects they have studied at school, including Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economics and Law, Information Technology, Technology and Foreign Languages.

This year is also the year with the first batch of students taking the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program.
